Flashing issue

hi all,
I lately tried to install the linux kernel on my n900.
now my n900 is stuck on a nokia logo booting loop.
so I tried to flash it, but 770 flasher seems not working on my version of OSX.
then I tried from the terminal following the procedure and instead of having the "Suitable USB device not found, waiting" in the end, the command line just end and nothing is happening at all.
anyone can help me ?

Re: Flashing issue

Wow, double wow and Triple Wow
Wow number 1-
Did you know what kernel was there before flashing a new one?
That may have gotten the ball rolling on your prob there....
If you flashed a different kernel than what you should have...

Double Wow-
The flasher you used...
perhaps for the 770, n800, n810 it works with an OSX host computer....
but that flasher really never was meant for the n900 ....
if memory serves...
Personally I've never tried flashing with a osx host machine so I'm perhaps not one to look to on how well the flashing process works utilizing osx hosts ...

Triple Wow-
That "unable to find device" is really about the flasher and the host communicating improperly with the n900...due to missing drivers on your host and the improper flasher...it couldn't find the device...It's looking for an n770 or n800 or even an n810...not an n900....and the host not having requisite drivers in place to recognize the n900 when it connects doesn't help....But even so....

Triple wow...
Wowwowwow...

Be a wee bit concerned at this point ...
but not worried or horrified or sweating bullets...
I think it should be fixable...

Best suggestion is grab fffff whatever-flasher (:D) and all your pertinent flashing images and files and use a (friend's) linux machine (this flashing tool works grand)
or
grab the nokia internet tab. software update wiz. and use a (friend's) winxp / win7 machine. ...relevant driver to allow win7 see the n900...
or
grab flasher 3.5 (think it still works fine ...haven't tried it in a bit ...6months-1yr...)

Those methods work well...
Just gotta do it right.
Just make sure you pay attention to instructions...
regardless which host type (linux or ms) you use...
Shout out if you hit a wall along the way...
I'm sure one of us will chime in with help...
Do it right and it should put your device back in operation.

According to [1] the flasher hasn't worked on OSX for a while.

It might be easier using an Ubuntu Live CD or virtual machine (or a Windows XP PC). If you can't find the flasher provided by Nokia, try using the Open Free Fiasco Firmware Flasher (0xFFFF) [2] as it's currently in development by Pali from this community - but you'll need to use Linux to use it.

Re: Flashing issue

yea...
what mrsellout says....
Open Free Fiasco Firmware Flasher (0xFFFF) that's the name!
Never could remember that mouthful..
that flasher's the ticket!
Works good...
All the mentioned ones work good..excepting small points (necessary drivers...pulling the batt at strategic moments ...etc....) you must be aware of.....

Re: Flashing issue

thanks guys.
After wandering around the internet I managed to use ubuntu on a virtual machine, then get everything i needed to flash my device.

but at this stage, everything I try alway end up by a
"sudo: flasher-3.5: command not found"

I followed the process step by step, and I have now the flasher 3.5 executable on my ubuntu desktop.
can anyone light my path a bit more ?

Make sure you use the full path, i.e. not:
Code:

sudo flasher-3.5 ...
but
Code:

sudo ./flasher-3.5 ...
The current directory is not (by default) part of the PATH, unlike in Windows. Don't know about OSX.

I tried to follow the direction but I have this message :

"RX-51_2009SE_21.2011.38-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM: No such file or directory"
I have all the necessary files on my desktop.

and I finally tried :

sudo ./flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin -f
flasher v2.5.2 (Oct 21 2009)

but at this stage nothing seems to happen any idea ?

OK, so what happens on the N900 side? we don't know how much experience you have with flashing, so for all I care you didn't even plug the USB cable :)

Read the wiki page referenced above *fully* and then ask again.

i did plug the usb cable as i have the usb icon on the nokia boot screen

any other solution to fix the n900 stuck in reboot loop ?

Re: Flashing issue

As far as I know ...
Reflashing "is" the only way to fix a reboot loop. (under normal circumstances if it were to suddenly start reboot looping for no reason whatsoever powering down the device ..pulling the batt for a few minutes (or replacing it with a diff. one completely) and then putting it back in and starting it up will break the looping...but you most certainly went and mucked with installing (in all likelihood) a kernel you should not have installed...and then used a flasher that is not meant for the n900 at all. So in your case reflashing is most likely the only way...)
Something odd is going on in the dialogue 'tween the vm 'buntu and the n900 ... they aren't communicating properly. Is the vm able to access usb's period? There is the 1st thing to check I think. Plugging another appliance in and seeing if the vm can access it will rule that prob out. After that possible prob is ruled out...pay attention to the fact again that the vm still can't "see" the n900 ...a driver to help recognize the n900 signature is not responding or is not there.
If everything "is" running properly...I would try multiple attempts and do the process as expediently timely (as quick as possible without making errors) as it may be it is timing out due to the time you are taking...just a thought.
Once it finally "sees" the n900 and you are able to continue and once it states that flashing is occurring the connection is solid and the process is committed....somewhere after this point (from what info you are showing...I don't know exactly what you are doing after this point) it is timing out due to a communication failure or a lack of the exact proper commands issued by you ...there is something going on that shouldn't be happening...
By properly reflashing...you are erasing the old firmware and putting the new in it's place. Whatever os / software errors problems or reboot loops on the old firmware are gone...they don't exist anymore.
It should be booting properly.
