RECOVERING FROM FLASH ERRORS

Note: If you did not receive any errors, you can skip this section.

In some cases, the new firmware image includes cellular modem (CMT) firmware that is older than what is already installed. This has typically happened when flashing N9s running 003 (China) firmware with other firmware variants. If you received an error about flashing the CMT, obtain the image for the firmware that was previously installed, then run:

Code:
flasher -f -F old_main.bin --flash-only=cmt
If you previously upgraded your phone "over the air" (through SSU) and now receive a Downgrade disallowed error when flashing, try flashing an image with a higher variant code. For example, if you experienced the error with variant 001, try using variant 005 instead.

With what fw, i flash with this command?

Okay..FFFFFFFFFF
I'm downloading the main.bin's chinnese version and will try with
Quote:

flasher -f -F old_main.bin --flash-only=cmt

With the chinese version. And I have he new zaeland's version with the CMT from the chinese version

Re: Problem with the sim card

I privately bought a white N9 (still in awe of its beauty :P).
The seller said he had no problems with it, the last time it was used (years ago). He tested it for me & came back saying it would not recognise a SIM card.

I bought it anyway expecting broken 'sim pins'. By looking down the port it looks fine to me (comparing with working & broken pin phones).
I have looked through all the threads with title keyword 'SIM'.
It's a Chinese phone. I've tested with 2 SIMs / cleaned with eraser / sandwiching paper / swapping SIM trays.
IMEI etc are all indicated on "About Product" page (with/without SIM).

I've "Zeroize flashed" with Australia firmware -> expected errors -> used Chinese firmware for CMT -> indicated successful (MD5 correct).
Still not recognising SIM (now indicates "Emergency calls only) & NO error messages.

I've read that the battery can be a cause. Does long battery life cancel this out?

Should I open up the phone? Ideas?

Edit: Just tried to flash with only the Chinese firmware, which failed (with SIM).

Re: Problem with the sim card

I had this with Symbian Phone. Bad Battery made that Sim not recongnized.
Maybe put it charging. Does it now recognize the SIM?

Was N9 flashed with or without SIM in place?

Originally without SIM. Attempted another flash solely with Chinese firmware, with SIM (carelessly? Is that bad?).

Flashing only Chinese without SIM also failed.
Terminal output mentions "Security Failure"?
Or could Australia firmware (minus CMT) be considered upgrade & it refuses to go back to China (considered downgrade)?

Trying to work out sequence of events here as from your pastebin output device was initially running Australian HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3.299.1_PR_LEGACY_299_ARM_RM-696_PRD_signed.bin so when you tried DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3_PR_LEGACY_003-OEM1-958_ARM.bin it was disallowed as downgrade

You then forced Chinese CMT upon this version DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3_PR_LEGACY_003-OEM1-958_ARM.bin' --flash-only=cmt which was accepted

Perhaps going down a Legacy 005 route firmware might be accepted?

Re: Problem with the sim card

Ouch, someone quick. If a Zerorize flash
flasher -f -F main.bin --erase-user-data=secure
.... fails, is it bricked?

Edit: Phone had 299 with '003 CMT'. I tried standard flashing 005 which failed, then Zerorize with 005 which also failed. https://pastebin.com/Lg1f3GkT

flasher -i works. Should I do cold flash?
I haven't disconnected or tried rebooting it.

Yesterday, originally (likely 003) the phone indicated 'Total Space' of ~64.06gb.
With 299 firmware, it indicated Total Space of ~6.38gb (no typo).

Edit2: When I try to flash, it outputs & stays at ">" & the "flashing bar".

Re: Problem with the sim card

Zerorize flash failed (due to downgrade). Phone refuses to attempt flash (basic & Zerorize). The flasher does Identify the phone (bootloader good?).

Anything I should try?
Reboot?

You are trying to downgrade:

cmt 003 is Chinese variant once you have flashed chinense cmt, you cannot change it back to western version, 003 can only be updated with 003.

You can try to flash

DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3_PR_LEGACY_003-OEM1-958

(find it here https://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=96401)

flasher -F 003version.bin --flash-only=cmt -f -R

flasher -F 003version.bin --flash-only=cmt -f -R

Thanks, feel relieved now that it's booted.
So it is now 299 & 003 (CMT).
IMEI is present.
It indicates total storage as 6.28 GB
Error message; "Can't access user data"
Application data is unavailable (it says "in mass storage mode"; while unplugged).

So, combination of 299 & 003 doesn't work?
Solely flashing 003 is not possible, since it's downgrade..
Should I try finding New Zealand firmware?
Can I only use 335, 341, 420 .....?

Edit: Phone is supposed to be 64 GB
Btw, some of those links to firmware are dead.

You would need to cold flash to re-write partitions once you have identified a firmware version:http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...postcount=1512

There is no separate New Zealand firmware as 299 is country variant Australia and of course you have tried DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3_PR_LEGACY_005-OEM1-958_ARM.bin

Thank you.

The phone is still the same after cold flashing 299 with 003(CMT).

Is there anything else I should try, besides upgrade?

Could be messed up user partition.
I would try booting using rescue image, to get access to /home in order to check it out - and backup.
If you backed up, or doesn’t care of any data (photos etc), reflash Emmc also (You WILL loose whatever is installed besides factory apps)

Re: Problem with the sim card

Flashing emmc fixed 'Total storage'. :)
Telephony doesn't work (IMEI is listed), possibly because I used the wrong emmc file; China?: CF121574_DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.13-7.PRC_EMMC_PRC.bin

Anyone have a link for 299's (?) emmc file?

Re: Problem with the sim card

Mike, after flashing eMMC (and firmware) you will need to restore telephony by flashing the chinese CMT only?

Yes, didn't forget that. No errors.

sudo flasher -F '/home/michael/Desktop/china/DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3_PR_LEGACY_003-OEM1-958_ARM.bin' --flash-only=cmt -f -R

Will go through the whole 'Deadly CMT' thread again.

Edit:
Acquired phone from seller. When last used years ago, telephony worked fine. Seller tested it, telephony was not working. I acquired the phone, tested telephony, cleaned SIM & sandwiched paper: nothing.

Before any flashing:
michael@michael-G41MT-ES2L ~ $ sudo flasher -i
flasher 3.12.1 (Oct 5 2011) Harmattan

After flashing eMMC you will first need to flash firmware again (or do it both together in one step). After that the chinese CMT only. Right?

Thanks, gave that a go.... no telephony (emergency calls only)

Still no good
