Jolla Tablet Refunds (latest developments)
 

I think we need a count up thread to follow this process and make sure jolla don't forget about this tablet. It's well speced now but in 6 months it will be "garbage". Anyhow, Like the sail overall even if it immature in almost all areas so we have to keep track of the progress before delivery in approximately 145 days. If jolla could squeeze in 3G it would make a difference since the area of usage would be so much greater. Anyhow...jolla started with bootstrapping...what is the next step?

- I hate Jolla/Leaving TMO thread
- I just revived my Jolla thread
- etc etc etc

and add the marketing area , so that everyone can afford :D

jPad? i dont now what this is, but why you dont buy a JOLLA TABLET?

i buy one and i cant wait for it...
its nice to have if the JOLLA TABLET has 3g/4g... but i can life with it... i turn on the Hotspot on my JOLLA PHONE... done! :)

You know... it just hit me. I bought the tablet knowing very little about Jolla. Twitter, LinkedIn, Skype, Google Hangouts... any of those native?

Or will I have to sideload all of those from Android? Also, what about drawing apps? Krita, Autodesk SketchBook, Wacom Bamboo... any news on those?

Anything like Penultimate (iOS) on Jolla?

I've come to conclusion that i don't like Jollas push into tablets area.
Their second device should have been a phone with better 'state of art' screen, more RAM, better CPU, with the same size as Jolla 1 and compatible with TOH-s. Coupled with few really useful TOHs, be it keyboard TOH, powerTOH or any other, just no more ******** desktop wallpaper changers.
I cannot see how marketing a tablet could improve native app situation for jolla phone. App development is largely stalled for phone, and i don't see it would be any better with tablet.

Totally agree.
In fact, in with the Jolla "the first one" I do already own a (mini) tablet with Sailfish OS, 3G and excellent battery life.

The Jolla tablet will bring me more of the same functionality

- minus the option to make phone calls with it by inserting a SIM card
+ extra joy reading comics and watching pictures

At the set price level of the Jolla tablet I don't expect any improvement in camera, speakers and general hardware quality over the Jolla phone, on the contrary.

I don't need either, Just supporting Jola hopefully rebuilding what's left of my dream.

Marketing wise I think I can help Jolla to promote their brand with the tablet better than with the phone.
I have a lot of experience with nobody being interested in the Jolla phone whatsoever.
Tablets are more common good than a phone which is being considered more private, sometimes laying around, self inviting people to try it.
Tablets are more exposed to public eyes than phones because they are bigger and are being used for longer reading sessions.
Exposure including fancy Sailfish moves such as true touch controlled full multitasking (now temporarily postponed by faulty out of memory task killer) and touch control of the minimized tasks might just attract some curiosity.
For explaining Sailfish to iOS / Android addicts, it helps that the screen is big.

Maybe Jolla should have started with the cheap tablet and the move to the ultimate smartphone. Nokia's NIT's only got 3G / Voice throughout step 4 of 5 :D

Hmm. Being that it's a tablet and not a phone means that (a) it's less expensive, and (b) it's available in the US; which for me, means that it's the first Jolla device I can get. I'm sorry to see the OH concept starting to disappear already; but, given that Jolla seems to have no control at all over their hardware(*), I can't imagine them being able to hang on to any truly unique features. :(

However, the tablet does have USB OTG -- shouldn't this open up a host of possibilities for external keyboards, hard drives, or other peripherals?

Well, in one very small way, it'll improve -- I stopped developing my own apps for Sailfish once I realized I had no good way of actually acquiring a Sailfish device for myself (and nobody else in North America would have one either). Now, I will finally be getting one, so I'm starting up my Sailfish SDK once again. :)

Earlier this week I even succumbed and bought a Jolla phone. I originally planned to wait until I could compare Sailfish / Ubuntu / Tizen but I got bored of waiting.

I ordered a tablet too and am sure that I'm not in those 30.

To come back to the earlier discussion, with this tablet I'm also planning on helping devs to make qt apps for sailfish, things that I was not going to do just two months from now.

I did, and I see I am in good company: as of this writing, there are 800 upgrades to 64Gb.

I planned (and still plan) to add a uSD card to the tablet, and I will probably use that for multimedia stuff. But a larger SD card should be more reliable than a smaller one, if it is using the same technology: after all, wear levelling is spread to twice the memory cell. Also, it should be faster (it is easier to find a free page to relocate). And the price is not outrageus. Nokia or Apple asked a steep premium for the extra memory... In Jolla case, the option is more expensive than a uSd, but not too much.

There's no room for speculation other than it has something to do with being able to buy the phone together with the tablet... But sure, let's create hype about nothing :)

I thought the only thing special for the early contributors is the relatively cheap upgrade to 64GB.... which I jumped on.

Wish I bought the Lastu case though. That's the one thing I'll probably regret not purchasing.

Jolla tablet could be the tablet you take to your IT work.
Where you can use Native Linux tools.
Of course, for something that you compile by yourself, for your work.

It's not like a Windows laptop which has a Program running provided by a third-party solutions company.

Interesting paper ehmmm bag...
And so easy to recycle.

I would use a tablet many years, like my N9.

But spare parts not good to sell on iGoGo.

I guess we'll see a lot more TMO users buying the tablet when it has its retail release? Sales from crowd funding sites will often turn many potential buyers away, I know it has been a turn off for me in the past.
