whats your top bugfixes, req or features for next update 12. personally I would like to see something that attracts users, not another tuning of browser or ambiance.

could update 12 be sail 2.0?*

Morpog 2015-03-04 11:58

Re: sailfishOS Update12 discussions

It's not an update anymore, beginning with this version it's called upgrade.
The term update is now used for hotfixes.

Private browsing will come with this update for sure.
Maybe lock screen media player controls will arrive with U12
Maybe IMAP IDLE/PUSH support

just check this link:

Re: sailfishOS Update12 discussions

Well I do not know the specifics, but the roadmap is already set:

http://www.jollausers.com/2015/01/se...like-for-2015/

I would guess the usb tethering and private browsing support should come in release 12...
Not sure about the rest. Maybe landscape maps? OpenVPN support?

Toolchain update is scheduled for release 13, which may or may not be sailfish 2.0.

Anyway, between now and June, we should get a nice set of improvements. Maybe they will come as a massive upgrade, or they may come piecewise.

Re: sailfishOS Update12 discussions

I'm not overly keen on application updates being tied in with OS updates (though in some cases the two may go hand in hand - eg. gallery and media filtering).

Anyway, this probably isn't exhaustive, and for what little it's worth:

OS/Phone:

* Allow non-Jolla applications to have their settings via System (maybe provide an incentive for developers to use it by allowing backup of any settings there).

* Put Settings shortcuts into Eventview (I know there's a patch).

* Add vibrate, airplane and/or connectivity, screen brightness, low power mode, etc. settings to ambiences. Will turn them into proper profiles and mean one change can be used to switch important settings (silence, some sounds, connectivity, etc).

* When creating an ambience, give option of "use default settings" or "use current settings".

* The data connectivity pop-up is better now, but would be nice to be able to definitively control it.

* Make it easier to switch between icon sets. For example have a folder of sets that need to conform to a standard naming and/or structure, then allow user to select one in Settings. Maybe also add this setting to ambiences.

* OpenVPn

Calendar:

* Improved views (weekly, extended monthly, etc)
* Manually add/delete calendars
* Manually add entries to Birthday calendar
* More sophisticated repetition settings
* Calendar backup
* Default reminder setting
* Default calendar setting

People:

* Add a notes field

Gallery:

* Any method that allows filtering album art from the image list, without affecting the music files from being detected.

Ringtones:

* If you select a file to use as ringtone, alarm, etc., it gives you the option to copy it to the ringtone dir. You can do this manually, but it would save some effort if it did it for you.

Weather:

* Allow other weather providers - esp. UKMO.
* Add ability to add forecast to display - eg next 3 hours, tomorrow.
* Add ability to display precipitation probability, wind speed and direction.

Go to together.Jolla.com, sort by votes...

https://together.jolla.com/questions...s-desc/page:1/

That's pretty much my list though some of those that are listed as implemented are best described as experimental (translation = not working).

CalDAV, CardDAV, SIP are my main three.

But more so than Jolla 'implementing' these I'd rather see them open up the accounts API and settings UI so that other people can do it.

Just fix that media player already. First 9 updates album art worked sometimes, mostly not. Since update 10 album art has been MIA.

Hope not. They're currently estimating end of June for initial Sailfish 2.0 for the phone

Re: sailfishOS Update12 discussions

My List of most wanted enhancements:
- functional integrated XMPP-Client (ability to add contacts, XEP198-Support, OTR-Support, [Filetransfer and MUC as a bonus])
- Fully integrated SIP-Client
- working caldav / carddav with owncloud (no more repeating calendars and disappearing entries, and working carddav at all)

unfortunately it looks like all of these are low priority, even more now that the sail 2.0 and tablet adaption works get all the focus

There have been opinions that it's bad idea by design to put settings of an app into another app. And i tend to agree, probably gets instantly annoying on actual use.

I'd drop it completely, why waste time on that.

I only find it annoying that some are there and some aren't. I don't mind going to one area to play with the settings across several applications, and if the settings were instantly applied, it could be easier to switch between Settings and the application being tweaked, than back and forth within a application.

But otherwise introduce consistency, would be better so yeah I'd prefer it to be dropped to the current situation continuing.

It would still be nice to ensure that all application settings are in a consistent place though, for back-up purposed (though the UI and location aren't necessarily linked, I know).

Best to vote about this in TJC I guess.... FWIW, I think it's best if all configuration options are in Settings, otherwise you end up with applications placing the settings menu inconsistently and -worse- using real estate that you rarely need to access. I haven't touched the browser's settings for a while and I'm very happy that I don't have to deal with its option polluting the UI. I can't say the same about WebCat but only because they can't add the settings to the Settings menu.

YMMV though...

Thanks. Changed. But does IT really matter if its an upgrade or update or PR... Didnt know that they changed the Word and dont really see the differance. To me its a strange thing becouse now it easier to the Word downgrade instead of upgrade if and when jolla do stupid design decision. So now jolla really have to make huge improvements in every upgrade to justify the word.

Now my expectation of next upgrade skyrocketed...but...

Better navigation in forms
Copy and paste all over
Free beer for everyone
Uprade true

Else{

Just add it to the sail source and build, Then we are golden!

Just for arguments:
I think, because it is not possible to force app devs to uniformly implement SF unified settings, and in reality there will surely be inconsistencies anyway, better let 'Settings' populate app menus - consistency known from every platform since birth.

Or should 'About' pages also have an unified place in Settings app, because these actually waste precious real estate in pulley menu.

Yes, YMMV, but depending on an app, i quite often find myself tapping or selecting 'Settings' menu item on an app during it's use.

I hope that one day Sailfish is going to support several users on one device with some sort of child restriction options. Then the tablet could make sense to me. Using it in the family.

I started looking into that; in theory it is very simple but there are some practical gotchas in it (as always in SWD :rolleyes:)
  • basically what is required is just a login/logout controller that mediates which user is granted session
  • what makes it more touchy is that some systemd actions and targets are dependent on "nemo" user, those need to be identfied and corrected

No it doesn't really matter :D

Here the explanation by Aard:

Quote:

We're currently phasing out the uXX naming on top of the version numbers. To identify an upgrade, use the first 3 digits of the version number (the 4th one is the build count). As an example:

1.1.2.10 could be the initial release of 1.1.2 (u11)
1.1.2.12 could be a hotfix for 1.1.2

We'll also adjust some other terms, aligning a bit more with terminology used in Debian and other projects, starting with 1.1.2:

upgrade instead of update
update instead of hotfix

Yes, hope not. But it's March now and seeing that it has taken over 2 months to release latest upgrades\dates so... My bet is that we'll see upgrade12 in May and SF 2.0 some time late fall. :D

Well, if those are your expectations, I hope you will not be deluded. :)

Seriously, the roadmap says update 13 will have a toolchain switch, which means all packages will be rebuilt with the new compiler anyway, so, given that everything will need to be downloaded again, it makes sense to do the switch to the new "2.0" ui at the same time. It is not a requirement, but it would avoid some extra pain for thwe users. I suppose they are planning the "2.0" thing for the tablet, so say around may june?

That leaves space for an interim release, and I do not expect we will see a lot of stuff there. They might release a few features anyway, but nothing major.

But hopefully, for this next fall, things will be stable again... B)

It's exactly what Apple did with iOS since birth.

Personally, I don't see why you can't have both. Clicking the settings option in your app should open the same settings dialaog as from inside the system app settings page.

The problem at the moment it's you can't create the system settings connection.

Absolutely. It's such a waste of space.

I've somewhere Carol Shen said the UI on the phone at the MWC is just a development version and doesn't reflect the definitive UI of Sailfish 2.

Noo, what are you talking about? SailfishOS 2.0 and Tablet is ready already and won't be changed in any bit. You forced to wait some months just because Jolla decided so., and all things what you see at MWC15 are final.

Why would Jolla go to an important place like MWC and almost everywhere show only a certain way to use the tablet (in landscape mode, with certain specific gestures)?

Because that is the only thing that works?

My wife told me once that after one fiasco with a demo not working properly, their boss decided to do all the demos in PowerPoint. Perhaps what Jolla is showcasing now is a similar mockup.
