Camera phone competition April 2015:"Hobbies"
April has come and that means spring's here along with better weather. That means you could do a lot of activities that you couldn't do while you were almost trapped in your house while it was snowing.
Here's what eekkelund has got in store for us - hobbies: "Hmm.. I was thinking that "hobbies" would be cool theme, cause almost all has a hobby and that means more participants and pictures in competition!(Also it is nice to see to what people are into..)" The rules: Photos must be taken during this month Photos must be taken by the posting member Photos must be taken with a camera phone Users post only one photo per entry Users can change the entry only once Users must name the phone they used (so I could include it for voting and such) Last three days of this month are for voting So at least tell us what are your hobbies? I love music and I'm beginning to practise DJing (I just got a pair of turntables, still saving for a mixer and needles, I also really love vinyl) and I like photography and film. This month is going to be very unique and interesting, can't wait to participate! :) |
Re: Camera phone competition April 2015:"Hobbies"
First time participating
http://i.imgur.com/DSahJ2e.jpg A little bit of background, me and 4 other house mates bought this table at the beginning of our year and I was the last man to leave the house and there was nothing left but a cold table. We did have a lotta good times on the table. Using the one and only Jolla. Edit: Ahhh this photo wasnt taking during this month, if anything this was taken several months ago, but it was a poignant photo, ill change it to something more appropriate soon |
Re: Camera phone competition April 2015:"Hobbies"
Very nice. Out of interest, why is that pool table squashed? Years of exposure to the elements or Jolla camera lens distortion?

Re: Camera phone competition April 2015:"Hobbies"
Not a bad hobby. People do need to be outside nowadays..

No one has his or her hobbies? I tried and shot a few photos but they don't look good and I don't have all the equipment for my hobbies yet but I'll try and come up with something soon. Don't let us compete with only two photos.

Asarum canadense, wild ginger. That's the flower which sits well below the leaves at ground level. Sort of looks (and smells) like a rotting fruit to attract the ants and other crawling bugs that polinate it. The intersection of two of my hobbies: growing N. American native plants and photographing them. http://i.imgur.com/bDVUiCm.jpg |

This was a tough topic. Albeit for a very different reason from most older topics. This one was difficult because I had too many candidates, not too few. For a long time I was considering submitting this picture from another thread. I was also considering a picture of my kids horse riding (as the topic did not specify whose hobby it should be about). Or a photo of my newly tiled bathroom. Or my garden. Or a screenshot of a Maemo app I am in the middle of developing.
Eventually I decided to go with this one as it characterises me the best. Both in its nature and in its state of (in)completeness. It is a project I started some 3 or 4 years ago. Having a family and a job with a long commute, I find very little spare time to move it forward. I could not even find the time all weekend to take this picture, I had to take it to work and take this photo during my lunch break. But I hope to get there at some point. Maybe when the kids grow up and go to college ;) It is a 2-channel oscilloscope with an LED matrix display instead of a CRT. Built exclusively with old components I found in the drawers, desoldered from discarded old devices or purchased cheaply at various old-school radio or electronic fairs. Taken today, 27 April, with my beloved N900. Attachment 36956 |
Re: Camera phone competition April 2015:"Hobbies"
My son and I hike together (or explore as he likes to say...) just about every chance we get. As soon as winter is over, we are at it again.
We came upon this structure near a cliff looking over a small ravine. I have no idea who created it, or what its purpose would be. Taken with my 808. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...230c7d4e_o.jpg EDIT: I don't know why the picture isn't showing up... Here is a link to the photo. |
Re: Camera phone competition April 2015:"Hobbies"
I don't see the photo in your post, but it shows the link if I quote your post.

Re: Camera phone competition April 2015:"Hobbies"
pichlo, nice. :)
I myself have started fiddling around with electronics and soldering but I don't have the money for a decent soldering iron yet so that will have to wait. imaginaryenemy hiking is great. Especially when you get to the top. But it's mainly good fun when going with friends. |

I have been using a transformer soldering iron for 30 years. Yes, the same one all this time. Something like this but much, much older and simpler: http://www.tme.eu/en/details/wel.810...weller/8100uc/ Only very recently did I upgrade to a "micro" iron. And guess what? I went for tbe cheapest. It works fine. Something like this, only mine is 30W: http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/40w-soldering-kit-n90ll Sure, for any professional work I would invest in something more advanced, with a micro tip, temperature control and built-in water feature with lights and music, but for the occasional hobbying what I have is perfectly adequate. |
Re: Camera phone competition April 2015:"Hobbies"
As Pichlo mentioned "the topic did not specify whose hobby it should be about" so I'm here to share some hobby from Prague, Czech.
http://www.liangchenchen.com/wp-cont...420_165333.jpg Lot people is using this machine on the street, seems not only tourists. Picture took last week in Prague by Nexus 6. P.S: Also there is some local hobby here in Cambridge especially popular in spring. Taken with my Nokia 808. |
Re: Camera phone competition April 2015:"Hobbies"
Seems it's too late, but as Half-Life_4_Life did not close the contest yet, I'll share something.
http://lemur.hg.pl/i/p/1ukoggd.jpeg Made with Nokia N9, of course. No, my hobby isn't leafing out ;) it's just a photo I made on my last geohashing trip. I think many of you have heard of geohashing, for others --- there are the rules. Trip was unsuccessful; mere 10 m before target I was stopped by incredibly swampy lakeshore. For a quick glimpse of my region, another (non-contest) photo from that day: green fields forward, city ~100m behind me, big coal mine ~1km to the right, swampy lake with boars' trails ~20m left, bones of some unfortunate traveller nearby ;) My other hobby -- one that needs some actual work and preparation instead of wandering through bushes -- is romanesque architecture and sculpture. This month I did not manage to visit a single place, though that would surely result in some more interesting photos. |
Re: Camera phone competition April 2015:"Hobbies"
I love your non-contest photo. The sun glare, the bones and the dead vegetation still sticking up in the foreground give it an eerie yet strangely romantic look.

Re: Camera phone competition April 2015:"Hobbies"
I am late also, I forgot to post this yesterday.
http://i.imgur.com/bVNais1.jpg Taken yesterday, Monday, aka international Chestday ;) with Jolla. My two main hobbies programming and lifting some heavy objects. |

Re: Camera phone competition April 2015:"Hobbies"
Again, this page makes Jolla's browser go berserk ;)
I vote for #7, imaginaryenemy. I don't know why but I like the composition. And it reminds me of similar things I see when I take my kids to the woods around here. |
Re: Camera phone competition April 2015:"Hobbies"
My vote goes to briest.

Re: Camera phone competition April 2015:"Hobbies"
4.Half-Life_4_Life
Nice subject, nice use of focus, pleasing composition. |
Re: Camera phone competition April 2015:"Hobbies"
I've gotta go for #6, Pichlo. I like it for being a very colorful and interesting image, and for showing a product that is unfinished -- for some reason, I think that provides a better sense of the image being that of a "hobby". ;) (But I'm hoping he does complete it someday!)
|
Re: Camera phone competition April 2015:"Hobbies"
#6 too.
I have been so busy, I never got round to taking a picture of my hobby. |
Re: Camera phone competition April 2015:"Hobbies"
Vote for 10.eekkelund. Be careful for the ThinkPad, don't drop the weight on it...:D
