Powersearch: not working?
Just like the subject says. Is powersearch not working? I'd use powersearch to answer this, but . . . no matter what I type, I get no results.

Re: Powersearch: not working?
No problem here...
Did you set some strange search preferences and did you save these settings? |
Re: Powersearch: not working?
Power serch definitely behaves as it feels at the moment.
My (very brief) test: 1) Type "robthebold", press Search. Result: "No results. Did you mean rob the bold?" 2) Type "pichlo", press Search. No results. 3) Type "robthebold", press Search. As #1. 4) Do not type anything, "robthebold" still in the entry box. Press Search again. 6 results. 5) Repeat #4, results as #1. |

Additionally, the powersearch text box only seems to appear in Chrome. I just see the "Loading" message in Firefox and rekonq. So something funny is going on, perhaps involving our friends at Google. |
Re: Powersearch: not working?
If I'm patient enough, and I click the "Search" button enough, sometimes I get a list of results somewhere on the 2nd to 13th try. Other attempts will sometimes give me nothing -- not "no results", just nothing at all, as if I hadn't pushed the button. Sometimes I get the "No Resutls" bar. Sometimes I get just an orange line.
So, much as we like to tell posters to "use search" and "search is your friend" here, search is not being my friend. In fact, on the 3rd click of the "Search" button, I saw the "No Results" message as the result of search for that phrase: "search is your friend". On the tenth click I got 1890 results. On the other clicks I got the nothing as described above. I get this on my Kubuntu machine connected to my home network. I see it on my N9 whether connected to the home network or connected over 3g. If other users are seeing the same thing, they might be forgiven for not "solving their own problem" when they had in fact made a good faith effort only to find that what they sought was not to be found. Would it be appropriate to add "Please try clicking 'Search' several times if it doesn't give you any results" to the powersearch page? Am I the only one that sees this except for Pichlo who experienced it twice? If it's just me, then the solution is for me to just do as above. But if it's more widespread, someone who knows something more than me about the scripting that powers the powersearch query ought to look into it. |

As for the OP: Some browsers somehow doesn't like the "Enter" button, if you click on search instead of pressing Enter, it should give you results :) |

So I tried disabling the various adblockers and anti-trackers. And in my rekonq attempt, I didn't install any blockers at all. The weirdest thing is that powersearch sometimes works whether I click the button or hit <Enter>. Occasionally on the first try, but sometimes after many attempts. And is doesn't always fail the same way. Sometimes I see "No Results". Sometimes I see nothing. Sometimes nothing except the little orange horizontal line. The inconsistency is the real headscratcher. At this point, I'm wondering if it's an aura thing. |

This thread renewed my interest and just confirmed what I had known for the past three years. Power Search Does Not Work™. Quote:

Ironically, the SFOS browser was the only one that has produced any results at all. Quote:
Could Power Search be yet another one of those things that only work for some privileged users? I've had a few discussions with members who also happened to be moderators who could not undersdtand how could I be so blind (or stupid ;)) and not see the obvious, until I showed them that the thing I see when I log in are not the same as the thing they see when they log in. |

Re: Powersearch: not working?
As of sometime in the last few days, Powersearch is now working properly every time for me. I haven't changed anything in any of my setups that I know of, but it's functioning as expected . . .
Of course, as they say: "Anything that gets better by itself can get worse again by itself". Hoping not. |
Re: Powersearch: not working?
Have to say I experienced some oddity with power search on Jolla and N9 one of the last days: no result at all.

BUT: now I really believe pichlo as I experience same oddities more often. Right now I do not get any search result, neither with power search nor with normal search (top right). Power search just does not react at all (it looks like). Neither on Enter nor on button click. At least no result is shown. Normal search just does not react, shows completely white page or what makes me believe techstaff should have a look: with WebCat on Jolla I got that little nice popup. Tested on Jolla, N9 and also trusty N900. |
Re: Powersearch: not working?
Resetting indexes now, this may take a couple of hours - last time long search patterns did return an empty page happened few months after infra move, also amount of returns had to be reduced as stuff like "nokia" in your search pattern stalls the search engine and aborts after the regular php timeout. If you do not get along, use google website on its own, we are properly indexed there and you will get results from wiki too.
