Replacement Battery for N800
I am looking to purchase 1 or 2 new N800 batteries. Is the battery for the N770/N92 the same as the one for the N800? I know I get what I pay for but, ebay has some really cheap prices for the battery. Anyone have any experience with them? Should I shell out the $50.00 for a new original battery?
I don't really care if I don't get the same amount of time on the generic battery, but I don't want the batter to blow up either. Thanks for the time. |
Re: Replacement Battery for N800
The battery for the N800 and the 770 are identical; don't know about the N95 - can't help you with the generics - I've only bought the originals.
Not much to offer, but I hope it helps. K. |
Re: Replacement Battery for N800
If it was me, I'd buy the cheapo Hong Kong batteries. If you look carefully, you can also find a charger that works great, for about $10 counting shipping. I have had three of the cheapo batteries and only one is going strong. One I got for free with the $10 charger, and it never worked properly, and I didn't even realize I was getting it. Actually it worked, but it fit the N800 compartment so tightly that I damaged it on removing it one day (it actually said Nokia on it and I suspect it was a real Nokia battery).
One worked great for more than six months and then it suddenly seemed too small! It didn't fit properly in the charger any more, so I no longer use it. The last one is indistinguisible in performance from the real Nokia. You can say this is spotty; to me, I got my money's worth on all of them and am quite happy. The charger was the best deal of all. I almost never charge batteries in the N800 any more. |
Re: Replacement Battery for N800
Geez, geneven, I know you were happy, but that REALLY sounds like an advertisement for official batteries. :D

Re: Replacement Battery for N800
Try a local Batteries+ store.
That's one thing I really hate about the states when compared to Europe and Asia: hard to find batteries for Nokia phones. If you're in Chicago or New York City go to one of the Nokia flagship stores there or if some kind soul on these forums is in one of those places perhaps they can help you out. |
Re: Replacement Battery for N800
Well, I bought a 14.00 one form the hong kong guy on ebay, and placed another order for a duracell battery for 21.00 shipped. I would like to buy the geniune one from the Nokia website, but at 59.95 that was too steep for my pocketbook.
I hope that both are good, but chances are at least one is a good battery. I guess i'll report back to this thread with my informal findings. |
Re: Replacement Battery for N800
The N800 battery, the Nokia BP-5L, is also used in the Nokia E61, E61i and E62. If a battery is compatible with these phones, it should work in the N800 as well.
I seriously wouldn't advise buying unofficial, it may damage your device and it may even damage you in extreme circumstances. It's also such a tiny difference in price compared to the cost of the device itself. Quote:
The only way to tell whether your battery is genuine is to examine the hologram sticker on the back, scratch off the black coating along its edge, and enter the revealed serial number on the Nokia battery authentication website: http://europe.nokia.com/A4382228 This sounds extreme, but they had some really bad publicity here in Europe a few years back when a string of fake Nokia batteries exploded. When it emerged that they were fakes, Nokia said "it's okay, we had nothing to do with it, they were fakes", but they were such convincing fakes that the press said "if we can't tell real from fake, how can we trust any batteries?". This is why Nokia started adding scratch-off serial number panels, so people dared to buy replacement batteries. |

Re: Replacement Battery for N800
I too am looking for a reliable place (USA) to order a N800 spare battery. I for sure want a Nokia BP-5L..not a generic..Nokia USA site says "out of stock"..
Thanks in advance people.. |
Re: Replacement Battery for N800
I bought my spare BP-5L battery from www.mobilecityonline.com. They are selling them for $49.99, and as far as I know, the battery is authentic.

Re: Replacement Battery for N800
I made a purchase off Ebay from one of those Chinese outfits. It took three weeks to receive them. I had ordered two sets that included two batteries, a charger box and one of those retractable USB charger cables. I didn't know until after I had committed to the Ebay purchase that I would be charged twice for shipping for what ended up being a tiny package. The total cost was about $30. I think about half that cost was the shipping. I now have batteries that act like the year old Nokia brand batteries that I started with a year ago. They don't hold much of a charge. Sorry, But IMO these batteries are junk. They weigh about half as much as the Nokia batteries. I'm not too worried about them exploding because there isn't much in them. Oh, and I was so ticked off about this that I left negative feedback for them and of course they retaliated with negative feedback for me. I don't know really what for. They required up front Paypal payment. Other than all that, I loved them. :)

Re: Replacement Battery for N800
I just checked PriceGrabber and there are several dealers selling for under $25. They all claim that what they have is original equipment or that it meets or exceeds the manufactures specs. However, they are only rated at 13 mAH. I'm confused.
Two of the suppliers are Duraceldirect.com and eBatts.com. These people sound reliable. Any opinion or did anyone buy the BP-5L from either company? |

Re: Replacement Battery for N800
When you get your battery you can check if it is a fake. I remembered reading how to determine if they are genuine or not and here is the info:
http://www.nokiausa.com/A4410004 You can get the scratch off code and it will tell you if the battery is a real nokia if that was promised. EDIT: D'oh now I remember exactly where I read how to ID the battery...ummm...it's in the USER MANUAL...who in the world ever reads THOSE? http://nds2.nokia.com/files/support/...N800_US_en.PDF |
Re: Replacement Battery for N800
Nokia BL-5L is too expensive to me (55 euros). Have you ever heard about the brand called “Polar Cell”? Their product is 1500 mAh and price 22 euros. Do you know about the quality?

Re: Replacement Battery for N800
As far as I know, you get what you pay for with batteries. You might need to buy several of that 22 euro battery to get one that lasts as long as a single 55 euro battery.

This question is over a year old, so this is a great time to answer it! I physically swap the battery all the time, yes. The big pro is that when you use the N800 you are never tied to an electric outlet. As far as I know, there are no cons. I'm still a fairly fierce proponent of third-party batteries, BTW. I have an N800 and N810, and the total number of genuine Nokia batteries I am using is 0. That's because my impression is that the particular third-party batteries I have are of better quality than the Nokia batteries. I have no particular evidence of that, just a feeling. Unfortunately, I don't remember the places I bought them from. I have given address information about batteries before, so it's in the records someplace... |
