Re: Jolla C
Just placed my order 10 minutes ago :D
I guess this is probably the Intex device rebranded as Jolla C. |
Re: Jolla C
Yeah, dual SIM and rest of specs are the same, but Intex might not be shipping to Europe, so they addressed that (queue in doomsayers claiming there will be no Intex and this is the whole batch). The bit about no warranty is a bit worrying though and not sure if legal in EU

Re: Jolla C
It's sad to see that the only means of payment outside of Finland is Paypal. Even credit card payment is handled via Paypal...
Anyway, placed my order, despite loathing Paypal. |
Re: Jolla C
Also ordered just now, hope they can meet their shipping target this time ;)
|
Re: Jolla C
Let's see how SOON we will get that 'ghost device' and AROUND which CORNER it will SURPRISE us ;)

Anyway, I also got on the bandwagon. The price is OK, and I will have a backup for my curent, aging jolla. |

No TOH?

Re: Jolla C
Just ordered.
Just in time to replace my Jolla with shattered glass :) I hope these devices will really end up in the hands of (current or future) developers, not resellers on ebay! EDIT: Here is the photo of the recent disaster - the timing of refunds and device program is incredible. http://i.imgur.com/iYfSz9y.jpg |
Re: Jolla C
I don't get it.
It's full price phone. It can be ordered by anyone(not only devs). It has no warranty(or would be limited warranty). So how exactly is it developers program? How is it different from any Jolla product, except "limited" edition and less warranty thing, that somehow is actually just a godd advertising (everyone wants to be in the elite club that actually has limited phone labeled as dev one) |

Yeah, I heard couple months ago from person at Jolla that they are going to launch Intex phone branded as Jolla to EU market. So I think it is this one. :) |

Re: Jolla C
Doesn't look much like a 'developer anything' indeed, but it's a new Jolla phone after all! Definitely ordering..

They propably can't afford any decent warranty, service, etc. So, the developer moniker is there as a warning that its not a comfy consumer thing. Buyer beware. Gonna order one once I'm back home from work. |

After it survived many falls in the past, it finally met the intransigence of a concrete floor. I was trying to find another one on ebay, but it looks like I'm better off waiting for Jolla C while using the old trusty N900 for a while. Let's hope it won't be too faulty without any warranty service. I think it is very smart from Jolla not to provide one - keeping a warranty service could finally bankrupt them, yet providing this possibility is a friendly shoutout to the developer community. |
Re: Jolla C
Just ordered, surprised how cheap it was! Looking forward to getting my hands on it.
|
Re: Jolla C
could not resist to throw my money after what ever comes also :D
I am a bit undecided regarding that "C" though. Sad to see a very limited amount of devices again. But hey, in best case we are evaluating whether the device is suitable for european market and pave the way for a grand release? |
Re: Jolla C
I hope it doesn't mean there will no Intex phone. No warranty probably means that Intex will make a small batch and that's it. Just like with tablets.

Noticed that after ordering, but we'll see how big it is in reality. Still a good device to have and test apps on, but I might buy another Jolla ("1") after all. |

Re: Jolla C
BTW, they're charging 69 euro more than Intex wanted to charge.

Re: Jolla C

The Intex device is subsidized by Intex and Snapdeal, as it includes advertisements (Super Apps/Partner Space), while Jolla C has pure Sailfish OS without any of that, so the real device price would be probably higher And how much of the rest is shipping from India to Finland (presumably), flashing clean OS, shipping from Finland to you and EU taxes and customs? On the other hand, they save on warranty services, but in my opinion, the price is quite fair. |
Re: Jolla C
Really not sure if they are going for the great heist of 69k eruo here

Don't you think that Jolla will 3d-print backcover in finland and flash their fw on every phone? :) |
Re: Jolla C

Additionally, I think that Jolla might want to tie individual phones to developer's account to prevent resale, so this would again be better done in their facilities. On the other hand, the "order cannot be changed" clause would suggest it could go straight from India, so we'll see. I still don't think Jolla will make much money (if any) on this device, though :) |
Re: Jolla C
No 3rd party apps = No Alien Dalvik = No way to run Android app.
And it's too big. |

Re: Jolla C
My bad. Missed it. But still too big. Thanks @pichlo.

Re: Jolla C
Well, I could have a European friend order one, but, for me too small, specs not that great. Looks like only 3G data in US. I would have taken it lieu of tablet refund. Regardless, I'm happy for those that get one to play around with. Should be fun being on the cutting edge!

Re: Jolla C
I'm curious what version of Android is supported and how about the battery life.
I'm more curious if this device will support android runtime in the near future. Of course not now ;) |
Re: Jolla C
Ordered one as my N9 is aging and Jolla has a broken class.
Could the Intex release be delayed after the monsoon/summer, and the 1000 sets of Jolla Cs and their users be around to help Jolla to finalise the Sailfish for this HW? |
Re: Jolla C
Complete fiction of course...
Cut to scene in Hong Kong where a Finnish executive picks up his iPhone... caller: "Hi, It's Spontex. We're not going to bother with the Pondfish" Exec: "But you're our last hope. We're screwed without hardware." Spontex: "It's not worth it. Nobody is going to buy a phone that's a year out of date and your software is late and buggy." Exec: "Oh please stay" Spontex: "Make it worth our while. We've got a 1000 cheesey Pondfish phones gathering dust waiting on your software and we can't even just flash them with Android as we stuck that new logo on the back" Exec: "How about I get our Finnish company to buy the 1000 off you and sell them at an inflated price to those schmucks in Europe that still think we're viable?" Spontex: "Even they will realise the phone is a cheap shoddy job and we'll be landed with returns" Exec: "ok, no warranty and it's a developer device so we can say it's not all supposed to work. We'll get the community to do support on it" Spontex: "Yeah, that'll work. Done." |
