Whaaaat!???? £195 already with 5 days still to go? Insane!

Re: Jolla C for sell anyone

Yep, insane is a good word for it! Makes you wonder why they only made a handful of these 'limited edition' phones, when there is a demand.

Well, it's the limitation that makes the profit. Wouldn't sell mine anyway.

I bought (traded my Jolla Tablet) from a member here with original price. Even if I sold it, I will sell for what it is* to valued community members instead of putting on eBay.

This is just ridiculous now...

*The real value for the phone itself.

Collectors. That's collectors, and they are a VERY different type of fanboy breed (if you can call them like that)

Well, then maybe it would be good to try to get a productive job.
I consider trading in futures (whether it be devices, stocks, bonds, land, whatever) to be immoral and not a productive job.

Of course that is just my ideological/political viewpoint and might be therefore disputed.

No, not really. But then they shouldn't buy new devices and instead looking for a job and/or improve their skills with more education?

Short term Speculation is usually a bad thing for all markets...especially for the unemployed and poeple without money.

Yes but in some countries opportunities are very limited, and many people do these things, simple buy it and resale it

On the other hand understand your point completely and it is kind of staggering not productive in any way

Some people do it as a side job also, ( i bet this guy who is selling jolla is on the same track ) many people after recession started in usa have found alternative ways to make a living

Re: Jolla C for sell anyone

Correct me if I'm wrong but it's being sold because the seller finds it too large a device, something I agree with, it's more difficult to use some gestures on the larger screen than on the original Jolla.

Also If they had listed it as a 'buy it now' for the current price then I would agree they are exploiting the limited availability, but it started at £25, it's the bidders that are dictating the resale value not the seller.

And maybe the seller is a millionaire :D , people are way too quick to make assumptions.

Unlike an N950 this device has been promised sw updates.

Final bid was 600£.

Then it is worth it. No copy/paste, text selection in mail/browser after 3 years. SW updates are always welcome......

To be fair, even almighty N900 lacked a text selection in email. You had to use the forward trick to make it available, same as in Sailfish.

Erm, not exactly. To be correct here:
on N900 it is possible to select text by holding SHIFT and swiping over the text.
Whereas after forwarding you can also use the keyboard functionality.

On N9 both is not possible, so we might consider SFOS version a step forward?

What?!?

How come after many years with the N900 (I even used it recently, after my Jolla broke and before I got Jolla C) I never found this functionality?

This would have saved me many angry moments over Modest trying to copy the forwarded text.

It certainly does!

And you know what's best about it? That Jolla/SailfishOS somewhat follows in its footsteps.

I thought to myself - wouldn't it be funny if this worked on Jolla as well (there are not many SailfishOS+keyboard users, so it could exist unnoticed), so I dug up my bluetooth keyboard, connected it, went to the e-mail client and voilą! It somewhat works!

How to reproduce (on Jolla):
  1. Open an e-mail
  2. Tap on the text (body)
  3. Hit Ctrl+A (the text becomes highlighted)
  4. Hit Ctrl+C
  5. Now you can paste it anywhere in the system.

Sure, you cannot select individual words and given the number of keyboard users, it's more like an easter egg, but still a nice find :)

Didn't know about that workaround years later. Thanks for pointing that out.

But SFOS did launch with MMS amongst other refinements. I'd call it a step forward indeed. But that's all relative to what you consider important as an indicator of a step forward.

Well, I use MMS'es extensively, on the average sending/receiving maybe 5 messages per week.

During "The Mighty N900 Week 2016" when I reverted to my trusty N900 I ended up missing some messages that I really would have liked to receive

There used to be a feature with my operator, that if a MMS was sent to a device that does not support such beasts would store the message in a network server and instead send a https link as SMS to the recipient. I thought it would still be available but seems it has been dismantled a long time ago, probably due to all devices nowdays supporting MMS'es...

I clearly remember using that service, and am quite sure it was available about 10...11 years ago. However when I called my operator the helpdesk had not even heard about such a thing and when I insisted, he called some senior helpdesker who vaguely thought he had heard about it "really long time ago in the past, before my time"
Pity they only have youngsters with no sense of history on call... :D

peterleinchen 2016-08-08 15:40

Re: Jolla C for sell anyone

@juiceme
that feature should still be available, at least it is in Germany, Vodafone.
Why did you not install fMMS if you use MMS that often? (I have probably send/received your monthly amount in my lifetime :p)

Normally they flag a number to be able to receive, so probably you missed those MMS due to the 'step forward' (your number flagged as able to receive and your provider does not take care of anymore?).

[rant]
But the most ashaming and annoying is that those helpdesk assistants normally just know how to type in your words into a search interface. And have no idea about the product (in this case: mobile network)!
And even more disgusting: we (the masses) just keep silent and accept this behaviour of the big companies.
[/rant]

I know about fMMS but have not installed it, as N900 is not my daily driver. I realized too late that I am going to be missing MMS'es and placed my trust into being able to fetch them later via the weblink way...:(

Nice that Vodafone still does that, Elisa has lost the ability to mists of timeeee...
And I fully agree to that, it is unexcusable for companies to discontinue useful services like that; I cannot really see how much can they save dropping the MMS recovery service for example!
(well of course they save couple kiloeuros in maintanance costs if they drop feature like that when changing platforms for example, but thats just peanuts to them robbers...)
