I'm here again! Thanks, community!

Hello, sailors. I have some bad news - my Jolla is unusable now. I don't know a reason, but the bottom part of the screen doesn't respond (area's height is near 1/3 of screen's one), so I can't type anything etc.

I've tried to repair it - reboots, hard-resets, different SW-releases, but no results. Also I've tried to disassemble and assemble device, no luck...

Temporary I have "free-rotation" patch and use my Jolla by head over heels. This is very uncomfortably to do, so I've decided to put my Jolla on a rack.

I have many patch-sources, so if somebody is interested to continue development - PM me, I will share sources for you.

Thanks to you all, for your responds, support, discussions, donates... I'll miss you. It was good time while sailing, but I see finish-line...

GoodBye, GL HF

What happened with Russia government helping sail sailers?

Indeed, very bad news.

Sounds like you want to leave GNU Linux devices after you?
And go the 'dark way'? Or what?

We.would miss you!

We should have a donation account from TMO. For members like Ancelad, the community should donate him a new Jolla Intex or something similar - he has made so many contributions and will definitely be a loss for us.

Ancelad's old pulley menu and buttons always is the first I install on patch manager.

I'm on for the donation if there is any.

Great Idea!

I'm ready to donate once I get my second refund.

BS, just bs (does absolutely not belong here).

Re: Goodbye, Jolla

I have Android-smartphone, it's enough for daily-use. I like "unlike"-phones, but "the only easy day - was yesterday". I don't like to discuss politics, but EU and US-sanctions forced me to change priorities - I've changed my job that requires car-buying, so I haven't too much "free" money to buy new (or even used) SFOS-smartphone.

I'm very appreciated for community help - most of your donates I've spent to phone-parts such as phone-housings, displays, batteries etc. My N9 is still alive due to your help, like Jolla was until yesterday.

I'm in ! 50 euro from me :) Just tell me how we do that ? directly transfer to Ancelad (https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/we...63e58274899069) ?

P.S. Hmmm purchasing from Ebay required PaysaPal, he don't know how to use it...

Re: Goodbye, Jolla

I'm probably interested in trading my Jolla C for a N9 black (or white) in good condition. My biggest letdown of my current N9 is the dying battery. It needs replacement and I'm unsure if I'm willing to do that myself. But since you seem to be a tinkerer, I'm sure we could figure something out.

I'm still struggling the size of Jolla C... seems it's too big for me, unfortunately. I just got aware that my size-limit is 5" - without bezel... :rolleyes:

I also happen to have some friends from russia (St. Petersburg) travelling there from time to time. Maybe we can arrange something?

pichlo 2016-07-25 18:43

Re: Goodbye, Jolla

There are a few Jollas for sale on this forum right now (example). Why not a community donation of one of those? I would be happy to contribute €25 towards that goal. Provided Ancelad actually wants it and does not want to take this opportunity to ditch Jolla for good, that is. I would not hold it against him.

peterleinchen 2016-07-25 18:48

Re: Goodbye, Jolla

@Win7Mac
Do not steal away the N9 from.Ancelad ;)

Keep looking at ebay, there were a lot of new 16GB from a seller in Bochum a year ago. Nevertheless some kind of trade (donations against Jolla C?) is of.course absolutely up to Ancelad.

mosen 2016-07-25 18:57

Re: Goodbye, Jolla

+20€!
So we transfer money to Win7Mac.
He gets a new n9 and transfers money thats hopefully left and the Jolla C to Ancelad? sounds like a plan.

Re: Goodbye, Jolla

I'm sorry to hear that, Ancelad. I alredy donated 2 J1 Batteries to Ancelad (tokeep his J1 working) and like to donated again.
This is very importand for us, that guys like Ancelad have an solid Sailfish HW for Development.

So i also would donated something like 20,- eur.

monkeyisland 2016-07-25 19:32

Re: Goodbye, Jolla

with 20 eur i am also in. :)

Win7Mac 2016-07-25 19:40

Re: Goodbye, Jolla

I'd prefer to not involve any money transfer bla, that just adds complication. I basically want a good condition N9 and get my current battery replaced to have a spare device.

If I can persuade Ancelad to help me with that and to continue his efforts for this community, I'd be very delighted. I just want my Jolla C in good hands in case I sell or trade it.

The other way around then?
We donate to Ancelad.
You negotiate with him about the Jolla C.
Easy.

Re: Goodbye, Jolla

Wow, I've just updated this thread and I'm shocked.

@Win7Mac,
my N9 has good condition, but battery is so-so, I'm not sure you'll be happy to have it. But it is ****ing awesome 64 gb!

@explit,
again - thank you, your batteries work much better than my one.

@Eminem,
it doesn't matter J1 or anything else - any SFOS-phone will be as lifebuoy

Also some words about my relationship with SFOS - I was very inspired by this OS, and decided to have it anyway in despite I've used N9 with MeeGo. And that's why we have this project.

If you would like a white N9 16gb, I will send mine to you and then you can send the Jolla C to ancelad?

I'd really want a 64GB variant in order to be able to simply clone the device via backups. And I just learned that changing the battery is absolutely doable by myself. So the battery condition should not be an issue, I just want a good condition 64GB N9.

[edit] In order to not further derail this thread, I opened a new [WTB] one under 'buy & sell'.

And no, I would never even try to steal away Ancelads' N9... Obviously I want him to continue his work on harmattan. :p

Also donated, keep up the good work! :)

BTW, looks like the Intex Aquafish device apparently ships worldwide now, including Russia:

So that might possibly also be an option I guess. :)

I'm selling a J1 at the moment: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=97015

as I haven't a definite bid I'm willing to give it away for 70€ (instead of my asking price of 100), basically meaning I donate 30€. Insured Shipping to Russia is 15€.

Leaving 85€ open. Let me know if you're interested. Else I just donate directly via paypal.

Oh this is sad.. Is a broken screen all that stands between a valuable programmer software contributor and another Android user?

To me programming software sounds like a big deal so maybe I am overestimating the leaving behind of a lot of personal coding effort just because of the mediocre hardware platform failing again.

On the other hand, in the early days of internet I have been freed from dragging chat relationships by a broken modem.

Enjoy the new horizons and freedom!

Well, if i can do the maths, there should be enough donations for a new device for Ancelad. Now it is up to him if he wants to carry on with sailfish development.
