N9 again
I'm thinking of getting N9 again :-) But as far as I can see situation has changed since 2014. OVI shop is closed. Nokia accounts non-working. I gathered some info about workarounds (like open repo, changing .ini files for apps that depends on Nokia account login like Maps), but I still have some unanswered questions. Would somebody help please? :-)
1. I used to use Feedly to aggregate RSS feeds, and back in time I used to use Gnewsreader, which supported Feedly, but it was available only on OVI Store. Is there any chance to find .deb version? Where do you look for .deb files coming from non-funct now OVI Store apps? 2. We all now that Skype will probably stop working by the beginning of 2017 due to MS decision of moving its infrastructure to the cloud. But we still have built in GoogleTalk/Hangouts client in system accounts nicely integrated with the rest of apps (contacts). I hope it is functional? I'm using Hangouts quite a lot and not having this option in N9 would be hard to overcome when Skype stops working... 3. I'm looking for a medium advanced note taking app that could synchronize accross various devices. I know there were a Notekeeper (compatible with Evernote) in OVI store, but now it is gone (although source code is released on their site). But maybe I'm missing something else interesting here? TIA - I'll probably try to get a nice N9 somewhere on auctions or similar ;-) |

Edit: registration was required. It was a long time since I had to use Russian, but I managed to do so and Gnewsreader .deb is now mine, so if somebody wants it ;-) Thanks again! Shouldn't we have all such a orphaned coming from OVI Store .debs in one place for every Maemo/Meego fan? |
Re: N9 again
And thanks to this Russian forum I have a .deb for MeeNote - a client of Simplenote note taking site. N9 alive and kicking! Nice!

Re: N9 again
Hi,
I'm also serously thinking of getting again a N9. Jolla is great but too big for my hands. And my iPhone experience is not so great. My main concern is about web browsing. Is there any browser which allows to browse modern websites in good conditions? Thanks. |

Re: N9 again
For me the standard browser is also still quite up to the task, i use it the most. Opera Mobile (12.10.1) and Firefox are much more power hungry. But i'm using all of them (mostly standard browser and Opera), since sometimes certain webpages are not working properly on one of this three.

Yep, somewhere around that.
Mine is still v15. |
Re: N9 again
And here is link for Notekeeper, that works better on N9 than SimpleNote, if you ask me.

Re: N9 again
I will attached myself to this thread as it right now Im in progress of buying the n9, again. Im more of the n900 user, as it is the best mobile computer I ever had. Now I need n9 for just being powerfull phone and some kind of backup.
for a year I missing n900 ability to chat over facebook, can someone tell me if the same problem still afecting n9 too? If yes if there is some work over it? On the n900 platform I couldn't see any interest over it for about a year. I need my phone to do many different things but having live fb chat would be veeeeery helpful. |
Fb chat works on N9 with stock fb client. But the notifications are not online - background checking of new messages is probably done every 15, 30... minutes (don't know exactly).
|
Another way is to use m.facebook.com - but no notifications at all, naturally. Or combine both ways. :-)

Re: N9 again
I used to using mobile fb site on my n900, but as you mentioned this is not comfortable way. I can live without notifications but I need live chat while Im chatting, it is good to know that integrated fb client works - this was the charm on n900. Data in kilobytes, no aditional app needed, just the way it should be. Thanks!

Re: N9 again
I'm not frequent fb chat user so I'm not quite sure if the chat in the stock fb client is really live or there is need to manually refresh. Notificiations works quite good. Even if the client is closed, it is still checking for new messages and notifications are showed everywhere - in the status bar, low power standby screen, events feed screen. Just add facebook account in the account settings. I think there is some problem with "chat and contacts" option in facebook account settings in N9 and i have this option turned off (probably because i read this advice here or somewhere...?). So the chat between more than 2 users is off. But chat between 2 users ("messages") is OK - if you were asking about multiuser chat, there was misunderstanding, sorry.

Re: N9 again
no, no multichat, just chatting with one or two persons, a lot :)
So there is one more reason to spend my hard-worked money. |
Re: N9 again
It is still possible using facebook on n900 with symbian app :)
