Camera phone competition January 2017: "Old and New"
OK, it's January 2017. Depending on who you ask, it's a month named either for the two-faced Roman god Janus (who looks both backwards and ahead) or for the Latin word for "door" (since it's the entry to the new year).
But either way, January is the first month of the Julian and Gregorian calendars, and as such we often look back (on prospects drear) or ahead (to think and fear). So, for auld lang syne, let's have a theme of "Old and New". It could be either one, or maybe both at once. Is it an antique artifact? Or a new baby? The same baby holding a priceless antique? Who knows, as long as it provides some artistic inspiration? I was inspired by this New Years's Day sighting. A "ghost sign" from the old "Fire-Proof Hotel Bray, Rates From $1.50". (Of course, this precedes the official announcement of the theme, and is therefore disqualified, posted only for your inspiration and amusement.) http://i.imgur.com/2EFt7aC.jpg Same rules (copy-pasta from before): Photos must be taken during this month (after theme is announced?) Photos must be taken by the posting member Photos must be taken with a camera phone Users post only one photo per entry Users can change the entry only once Users must name the phone they used (software would be nice too?) Last three days of this month are for voting. Have fun and enjoy. (Please forgive my Burns-infested monologue, BTW.) |

Hey! Glad to see the competition still going strong, I've been so busy with university and whatnot so haven't been able to even log in to TMO. I have to finally participate after so long. :)

No entries yet? Haha here's an image I took earlier this year while on holiday.
I went to a town that has existed for a long time, yet recently revamped development for tourist attraction. Very nice place if you guys have the time to visit. It's Georgetown, Penang. :D http://i.imgur.com/AT3PJd4.jpg Taken on my OnePlus X, no further edits done. |

Re: Camera phone competition January 2017: "Old and New"
No, I do not have the idea of artistic inspiration at all ???
And... here, is no antiques, or new babies, or babies with antiques, nor buildings to mention... But here is my picture, taken with N9: http://huispaus.ucs.fi/tmp/17010006.jpg (Click the Pub to view it right and full) |

http://m.imgur.com/CrPzOkW.jpg I've tried to capture something older and newer in the same shot, in this case a still life with camera and cameraphone. The phone is my 2010-ish N900. The camera is a Kodak Autograph Junior dating about 100 years earlier. Note that the camera, like the N900 has a kickstand for propping it up level without a tripod. In fact it has two: one for portrait and one for landscape. And it's bigger than it looks! My understanding is that photos in that day were contact-printed and not usually optically enlarged, so a negative the size of the desired print was necessary. It's also got an interesting feature, sort of an early metadata recorder. There's a small door on the back that can be opened to allow the photographer to scribe some info on the back.of the negative with an included stylus (another feature in common with the N900). That's the 'autograph' in its name. Wish I'd gotten a little better composition and a nicer backdrop than my lab/workshop/atelier/etc. OnePlus X running SFOS, stock camera. |

Re: Camera phone competition January 2017: "Old and New"
Well it's February 1st or later, so I'll tally the votes.
Looks like we all went for a juxtaposition of old and new things this time. #3. catbus: 5 votes robthebold, shanttu, Akkumaru, tommo, mihsun #4. robthebold: 7 votes pichlo, saponga, imaginaryenemy, paolo_3_1415926, catbus, spfoo, briest Assuming I counted up right, I guess it's yours truly. Thanks, everyone. (New theme arriving presently. Let's see, it's February. The month of Valentine's Day in many places. The midpoint of Northern hemisphere winter is tomorrowish. Two (admired) US presidents were born in the month.) |
