List of Internet Radio Stations?
Anyone have a list of URLs for n800-compatible Internet Radio Stations? I'm getting tired of the BBC! I've looked around for Internet Radio Stations on the web, but every time I try to load the stream into the Internet Radio player, it doesn't work.
If anyone wants to send me the ones they have, I'll be happy to compile them all and post them to my web server, so everybody can just browse to it in their N800 and add them to their list. Thanks, Doug |
Re: List of Internet Radio Stations?
there are so many... But, yes, many don't work if they employ the MS format. I know KCRW and WNYC have three different streams each, and they all work. Look for ones that have mp3 as a choice. There is some big service that I can't think of that has a big list... I am sure someone will reply with its URL.
You can also set up TVersity on your pc and stream via that. That's what I do, as there is a station I like to listen to, JPR's News and Information, but uses the asx format. It claims that you can use a direct link, but it still doesn't work with the n800 - or at least I haven't been able to figure it out. You can stream TVersity content using UPnP via Canola, Media Server, and probably other programs. It's relatively easy to set up. You can also do this using Orb, which is easily accessed when you are not at home. I just find that Orb takes a lot of CPU time, so I stopped using it. There must be a way to use TVersity while not at home, but I haven't bothered to figure it out. Orb just works. The other advantage to using the PC based media servers is that you can stream all of your media - movies, music, radio - I think Orb even does TV... Sorry - no URLs, but maybe some helpful advice? |
Re: List of Internet Radio Stations?
Thanks Johsua. I actually have had great luck with Orb. (As a side note, I've even streamed TV from my local cable to the N800. It's really wild to be sitting in a hotel room in Asia and watching my local news back home in California.) The only thing is, as you said, Orb is PC-intensive and I hate to leave a PC turned on at all times just for that.
I'll check out the radio stations you mentioned. And my offer still stands: if anyone does have a list, send them to me and I'll compile them and put them as a web page that we can all go to and quickly add stations to our N800s. Doug |
Re: List of Internet Radio Stations?
Shoutcast... That's it.
http://www.shoutcast.com/ I think AOL owns it now... That is very cool that you watch your home TV in Asia!! You might want to give TVersity a try for streaming the ones that don't work. It doesn't seem to take over my PC while running like Orb did. Cheers, josh |
Re: List of Internet Radio Stations?
http://www.vtuner.com.
mplayer can play most of the streams, but it's not so easy to set up. if you want to use the nokia native app then you'll need to look for just the mp3 streams. |

Re: List of Internet Radio Stations?
Wow. Thanks guys! :) I just tried that Shoutcast and it's great! Can't wait to try the other suggestions. I just got my N800 a few weeks ago and I'm totally in love with it and have been voraciously seeking new ways to put it to use. I've watched quite a few videos on YouTube, that show how to expand it with things like Canola, Video Center, etc.
Any one have any ideas on where to get TV stations over the Internet? I miss some of the programming from Asia and would love to be able to tune in. If anyone has any ideas on that, that would be great, and I'll keep looking too, and post anything I find to this thread. |

http://www.radioroku.com/index.php is another directory, don't try to browse there from your tablet, but if you want to search for new stations, it's a good place.

There is a large selection in Media Player. Look under Library, Internet Radio, then Directory.

Re: List of Internet Radio Stations?
TV stations over the internet?? That's the realm of WorldTV99, one of the triumphs here, I think. You can just install it and use it with kmplayer.

Re: List of Internet Radio Stations?
I'm glad this subject has come up again.... been wanting to ask a favor. I use the "Virtual Radio" symbian app on my N80 (phone) and they also list the channels here: http://www.vradio.org/radiostations.php
I don't have a 'real computer' and use my n800 exclusively so am kinda out of touch with what's out there nowadays; its been a couple years. I'm wondering if there's a tool - an app or perhaps firefox extension - that can be used to "scrape" the above mentioned site and create a .pls playlist file of the catagorized links. I could go thru and copy the links one by one and ccreate the .pls file manually but was hoping there's a better way. This would be great to use with various apps on both my n80 and n800. It would also complement the worldtv playlist thats bundled with kmplayer. Thanks if anyone knows any easy way and can attach the .pls! |
Re: List of Internet Radio Stations?
My favorite music channel that I constantly listen to on my N800 is somafm.com!
Just go to the website, they have pretty much every type of lounge/ambient/dark music plus jive and country you could think of. Commercial free (except for Rusty hehe). I recommend it 110%! TN800G |
