maybe we could get the ability to put the active call into the background and chat while on a call.

Re: New Skype Update Available (1.7.43.38.2)

13 bugs open on Skype issue tracker - none of them marked as resolved, none with any feedback from Skype. Why am I not surprised... this is becoming so much a waste of time - we give, they (Skype, Nokia) ignore.

I've noticed the new version now allows you to enter a birthdate prior to 1 Jan 1970 when editing you profile. Beyond that I'm not noticing much else new or fixed. A changelog would be nice if anyone can track one down...

I did notice the maintainer of the update package is "FIXME <fixme@nokia.com>" - grad intern doing the quality control on this product?

Meh, I see Nokia still hasn't fixed their damn tableteer repository server either.
The damn thing keeps closing the connection on me when I try to update or install ANYTHING from it.
Kmplayer updated just fine and dandy. WTF, Nokia?
Had to "upgrade" Skype from the command line using 'apt-get install skype-ui' since the app manager is broken with that repository.

Worked for me. The only problem I've had with it is it seems to ignore the headphones. Still uses the internal mike.

Works fine for me in every respect, as did the previous version.
To me it seems like this version has more setting categories in preferences, but it could just as well be that I overlooked some of them in the past.

A difference I noticed is that Skype-out numbers are now at the bottom of the list of contacts.

Re: New Skype Update Available (1.7.43.38.2)

Not trying to revive a dead thread, but I didn't find any issues posted related to this version... yet on my N800 (latest OS2007) I cannot make calls longer than 2-3 minutes without a silent skype crash.
I definitely rememeber the first day I installed Skype I made a call that lasted > 3hours with no prob....
There must be a conflict between Skype and another app that I installed afterwards, since deleting the .Skype folder or re-installing Skype did not help.

Anyone can help me before I get too desperate :)

For now I'm using Google Talk but the voice quality is not the same as with Skype.

Thanks...

i seem to be having the same problem. my calls only last about a second though once the other party picks up, and i'm not sure what app might be causing the conflict, but it might be pidgin. i think that's the only app i've installed both times.

Re: New Skype Update Available (1.7.43.38.2)

I have used Skype sucessfully for voice in the past on my N800.

With the current Skype version running on OS 2008 beta on my N800 I confirm that for me it always crashes between 30 seconds to 2 mins into a voice call.
(Works fine for chat, to advise the person you called that it crashed on N800 and you have re-started the app :) )

---edit--- Please Note: The version of Skype I am running on N800 with beta OS2008 is 10017/1.7.62.48.3

Using IT OS 2007 on a N800, Skype will crash every 10 minutes or so.

I am unable to quit the application, no matter how long I wait, and need to force shut down the entire tablet and reboot.

Thanks sunraj83, that with .browser file was ok in my case. But I've just seen that my skype version is 1.7.62.48.3.

I just updated to OS2008 beta on my N800 and Skype installed with no problem. But when I try to do a skype out call to a regular phone it hangs up within a few seconds.

As mentioned in post #19 of this thread, the issue with Skype call out on OS2008 is a known problem. Please go to this thread:

No fooling around this time ( I take my Skype seriously ). Icerabbit, I regularly have calls with PSTN using Skype on the N800 running OS2007 which last 45 minutes or longer.

Take a look at this thread:

http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...t=Wlan+timeout

and

goto xterm and type-

gconftool-2 --set --type int '/system/osso/connectivity/IAP/wlan_sleep_timeout'
'1000'

for more information about why this might have a beneficial effect read this:

https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1636

and this

Hope this proves useful.

Wow, is Skype crashy. I can't get a call to last more than 10 seconds before quitting.

Re: New Skype Update Available (1.7.43.38.2)

I think that theese crashes are caused by some kind of memory leak or smth like yhat. The time of crash, 2 my mind, depends on transmitted information. Calls crash Skype quickly, Chats no so, but still. Well, sorta that :)

Re: New Skype Update Available (1.7.43.38.2)

I use Skype on OS2007 for long calls, no problem with crashes once the call has started. I occasionally get a crash when answering a call though - then I get the annoying ring tone going on and on and on until I reboot.
