I was looking in to it. Not sure how to send a phone and how to handle customs. Never sent any phones :D seems to be a risky endeavor with customs and ****. :(

I bought an Aqua Fish from a guy in India - it arrived with the battery not attached in the UK without issue.

Going the other way the rules here say

So it shouldn't be a problem, just say it's in there and they might put a sticker on the box (I received a battery pack with a big sticker on, but that was within the UK...)

Do you know somewhere where I can see if import tax must be applied in arriving country?

suicidal_orange 2017-10-15 14:37

Re: WTB: Sony Xperia X F5121

Taxes and the like are the responsibility of the receiver, their country's postal service website will probably have info on the limits but if it's in a foreign language it's easier to ask them to check.

I found this list but no idea if it's correct as on another forum someone quoted $850 for the USA recently...

I recently sent a phone, and the post office lady required that the battery be installed in the phone. I was baffled, as I had the impression it should be the other way around. But I obliged, and the package was sent and received without issues.

When installed there's no chance of the contacts shorting and the phone casing protects the battery from punctures. With it uninstalled there's no risk of the device powering on and overheating...

I guess someone somewhere did tests and decided which was the more dangerous option, we just have to blindly obey.

Let me get this straight. You walked into a brick-and-mortar shop and bought a brand new Sony Xperia X? Where? As far as I know, they are a discontinued product not available anywhere except for some old new stock at some online retailers.

yes, that is correct. you know. online retailers also have stores you know. And great coffee store right beside it.

new as in not open, not used. not sold. of course it wasent built yesterday since they are not build anymore.

I guess so. To be fair, I saw Xperia X Compact in a shop just this last Saturday. It looked great and cost only £200, but it was a PAYG deal and probably SIM locked. I did not ask. I did not see any vanilla Xperia X, only on Amazon and eBay.

They are available off-the-self in finland too, in several different stores.
Maybe we are so outback the news of obsolence has not reached us yet :) :)

To be honest, I have been seriously considering it. For my daughter, not me. Any potential SIM lock can probably be overcome so that may not be an issue. But she does not like the square edges.

That's what I have been always saying. Sailfish would shine like a star on a small screen. Because, unlike Android, it does not need a big one.

Re: WTB: Sony Xperia X F5121

Hi n950. was planning to upload photos of the phone but sailfish is totally waste of time. cant even copy a url from a upload servivice and paste in here. Im in such a bad mode and currently refuce to pick up iPhone or Android to do it. with shity saily OS. I recomend you dont buy this phone :D Go and buy a iphone, samsung or something!

guess I have to use a another device later to complete the task. :(

Sim locks can be unlocked but they are usually accompanied by a non-unlockable bootloader which cannot - that's what you need to check before buying one if you hope to get Sailfish on it.

I havent turned it on. but it is bought in same store as mine so its no issue. locked devices is nono.

I have to start it. put my sim in it and go thorough android installation steps. cant you buy another device. this takes to much time. :S have you checked that you can use it in you country/with your networks?

I can do that later if you want.

dial *#*#7378423#*#*
-> service info
-> configuration
look for "bootloader unlock allowed: Yes"

It saved me from buying a simunlocked but bootloader locked device last week ;)

I know but I have to put my sim in it. And it’s in a iPhone currently and I don’t have so tiny fingers.

It said: boot loader unlock allowed: “No fricking way!!”

Kidding.

No need to put in any simcard to boot/install/deploy an android phone.
(I did not put as simcard even near the Xperia before flashing SFOS on it :D)

No, I did not need a sim card to get into service menu. Think - you can even dial emergency numbers without a sim card...
