Whatsapp Web on N900 in 2019 (UNUSABLE BUT POSSIBLE)
1 Attachment(s)
It is possible but it is not so fast.
Easy Debbie + debian_Jessie2sulu_armhf.img + chromium 57 (chromium-browser-odroid) + Data Saver (from google) and One Tab only extensions + flash/pictures disabled + some chrome://flags tweaks. Still have to tweak a lot and hopefully get text input work in window mode without needing to start LXDE desktop. |
Re: Whatsapp Web on N900 in 2019
I have installed netsurf 3.8 plus openssl and libcurl3 and after installed chromium I tried what happens with install -f and maybe aptitude or something so not sure if I have happened to install something neccessary packets.

Without LXDE desktop it shows like this. So the window should be a bit smaller so that the whole Hildon top bar would be visible. Works much faster like this. Probably going to change "Only one tab" extension of chrome to xTab which alouds you to choose how many tabs are in use. If needs to change settings. You don't want to open settings in same tab and reload whatsapp again. It loads some time but when loaded it works faster than I thought even with images enabled. Scrollbars work (changed content to 125pros so scrollbars a bit wider), setting pages and conversations open as should. I even tried to watch a video but have to see if settings on flags allow some tweaks on that.

Text input works in window mode with chrome input tools installed on chromium and using virtual keyboard. Would sure be nice to get real keyboard working but in the land of blinds even one eyed is a king. Just threw (posted first through) a message on the go.

Re: Whatsapp Web on N900 in 2019
I'd say this is first class hacking :p

Re: Whatsapp Web on N900 in 2019
I will proclaim anyone a first class hacker once they have viable solutions to overriding problems that they have solved single handed without utilizing the work of others who have paved the way for it.
anything less is slow steps towards a solution usually accomplished by many working on the issue. That being said.. Maemish is doing good... great... frankly.. Keep it up man. Most solutions here for our devices have come about by logical process.. The problems that we have now aren't of that ilk anymore. The problems we have now can't really be solved any longer by logical process alone...we have been hitting the wall of the limits of our devices in contrast to the demand of the modern worlds services... What is called for are solutions now that don't just ride on logical process.. But also require the need for lateral thinking, Thinking outside the box... thinking (a)round corners.. thinking differently ... and if there is one thing I can say for certain ... Maemish ...you definitely think differently...(in the best meaning of the term) So keep it up. |

On the chromium 57 thread pythoneye2 gave a link with an extraordinary solution - which worked! On chromium type with HW keyboard. Nothing shows. Press the shutdown button to open the menu. Tab on the chromium screen to get it away. Suddenly have both HW keyboard working and access to MyDocs folder in window mode chromium. Just posted a picture to my friends with N900 on whatsapp. My moment of success on this forum.

Re: Whatsapp Web on N900 in 2019
Now we just need to go back in time and prevent Facebook from acquiring Whatsapp.

Re: Whatsapp Web on N900 in 2019
hmmm...
If I had a time machine and an assassination squad to get rid of all players competing ...so the NIT line dominate the planet for the next 1000 years ...I would be content with that... it would make redundant just aiming at preventing whatsapps acquisition ...thats for sure... In an alternate timeline we should be using the n970 or n980 by now which would be able to run whatever is currently thrown at it. Well...it is is only a matter of time (sic) until someone figures out the paradox suppression... Then we'll experience first hand ...since we will screw up creation as we know it ... |
