Yay... yet another VOIP implementation on the N800! What's that, 4 or 5 now (Google Talk, Gizmo, Skype, SIP Beta and now Truphone). No doubt Truphone will be using it's own contacts list too!

Not knocking it per se, just wondering why the commercial software firms are showing such a huge lack of imagination when it comes to the Nokia Tablets and only developing VOIP and IM solutions.

At least Gizmo uses SIP and Jabber... meaning you don't need to even install the Gizmo software whatsoever to use it.

Truphone is Sip as well, I used it on my Nokia E70 its a pretty good service. I think their differentiator is being able to roam between wifi networks very well and I know in London you can seamlessly connect to The Cloud which is a wifi network in London. However on the N800 they don't have too much of a difference over Gizmo or skype or what have you.

I emailed Truphone a few months ago and they informed me that they had no plans to make the software available on the N800.

Doesn't RTComm make it redundant anyway?

I'm everywhere. They told me as well that they had no plans to do anything for the N800 but I think that they might change their minds based upon the following observations:

1. The RTcomm beta. Truphone is SIP. In the old days I was able to use my Truphone account with the Gizmo client as well as a few other softphones.
Then they went and forcibly changed everyone's passwords AGAIN and now they're encrypted in their special "client" on my N95.

2. Gizmo showed them it could be done.

3. The N800 is basically an open-source platform for the most part even though Nokia does keep a few things closed up of course. Easy to develop for if you take the time.

Just for clarification, RFComm is SIP although it is in beta it works well. Because it works so well I never bother with Gizmo.

IMO RFComm also makes Gizmo somewhat redundant because it permits choice of SIP provider.

I can understand the necessity of using Skype to call locked-in-to-Skype contacts but isn't Gizmo simply another SIP provider?

However, if there is a technical benefit to using Gizmo, e.g. call quality, then that would make a difference.

My experience refers to PC and N800 only.
