News Group Reader?
 
Are there any programs out there for News Groups? Such as Giga News type services?

No, but they should be easy enough to port... however I think it would go *quite* slow due to the limited RAM and CPU power on the tablets.

Have you looked in maemo.org's "downloads" section ? There is a port of PAN, I think it's listed there.

It's a console app (i.e. runs in xterm), but Pine is described as being able to read news. I haven't tried it myself.

I thought I remembered seeing a gui news reader program, but can't find it now, so I must be confusing it with an rss reader or something.

PAN, as already mentioned in a previous post. Claws Mail will do the trick too.
