X Terminal
I was shocked that Nokia 770 doesn't come with X terminal. Where to get official original X terminal for 770 in year 2019?

Re: X Terminal
It was more near that I believed:
The most original public at (or I think so): http://repository.maemo.org/pool/mae.../o/osso-xterm/ The last official for 770 (or I think so): http://repository.maemo.org/pool/mae...0.13_armel.deb UPDATE: those files are not enough..wait for solve this problem UPDATE2: These are for SDK only to use with apt-get |
Re: X Terminal
Hahaha...
Ah...good times... I am shocked too that the n8x0 doesn't come standard with xterm preinstalled :D For the 770...it should be in the main 770 repo you use.. For the n8x0 one needs to enable extras and then let the catalog update and then install it from the catalog. Actually ...to make things just that much simpler for you... If memory serves.. You will be using one of the 2006 OS's...gregale, mistral, .. Or perhaps the more recent hacker edition.. For the 2006 os's. ...they used..um... osso-xterm (v 0.13) ...if my negligent memory serves me . .. Nokia in their smartness.. Decided to make sure that first time users just didn't have immediate terminal access out of the gate...to really make a mess of their devices. ( I compare terminal in the hands of a newmo akin to handing an angry chimp a mallet and a squeeky toy filled with nitroglycerin ) |

So I downloaded deb package above with another device and put it in 770. Application manager says what packages missing, so I downloaded them too, but then Application manager says for them: "Unable to install. Incompatible package." And not any hint why is incompatible. EDIT: I checked my OS version 3.2006.49-2 from control panel, so it should be Maemo 2.2, Gregale (checked from wiki.maemo.org/Codenames). I also tested install packages from 2.0 and Mistral and even from Maemo 1.1 and 3.2 folder. All gives that "Incompatible package." So my original question is not solved yet. |
Re: X Terminal
If you are using the version meant for your os..
If you have got all your dependencies ... And they are checked and meant for the version you need... And app man is telling you that the dependencies that need to be satisfied cannot be installed because they are ALL "incompatible packages" ... And since the version and its dependencies hasn't changed over at least 3 770 os iterations including Gregale that you are using, it is doubtful ...though possible you got a dependency that should be for a different version... But if you are sure you were exacting and omitted nothing ... then there is something wrong here that you have overlooked or omitted in the process. It must be. Installing xterm is one of the first and most fundamental installs to be able to access the system, and shouldn't be a problem on a clean reflashed system. Since you then have no known or unknown problems impeding. It is a clean reflashed fresh 770 you are working on... right? Otherwise ... God only knows where the problem(s) is(are) springing from...and what mess you are inheriting from someone else or from forgetting what one has done to said device years and years ago.. |

Depencies for osso-xterm are: libncurses5 and libvte4, but if you have installed it (of course you have), you can try any deb arm-package from that pool. Quote:
and Show installed applications shows: (no applications installed) Even clock was in year 1970 :) |
Re: X Terminal
Ok 3 things
1- The version I ran last on my 770 was the latest hacker version. What you are running is not comparable . 2- I have sooo many devices as is..to maintain... My 770 has been mothballed since shortly after I got my first n800 and n810 ...its been more than a decade past now.. By 2015 I realized that just in embedded ...I couldn't be on top of the 770, n800, n810,and the n900 ...(and now the nexus 5) something had to give. So I decided to enjoy my n900 as a power user and dabble now and then...to specialize on the n810 and n800 , and let someone / some others pick up the ball on the 770, and be the "go to person / people" for the 770 3- connectivity has been a long standing issue with the 770 for some folks. If it weren't for the fact you are having connectivity issues I would say to just circumnavigate the "incomplete packages" issue by installing other progs with the dependencies you need for xterm. |
Re: X Terminal
Wait a sec...
You did what??? "I also tested install packages from 2.0 and Mistral and even from Maemo 1.1 and 3.2 folder." " All gives that "Incompatible package." " Well of course it would... just adding stuff from other os's ... Even doing it twice with the right ones...the wrong way...could give you probs. Bet you didn't check the var lib install... Bet if you go inside you will find a duplication of paths inside the same ... so what should be var/lib/install .. is most likely looking like this.... /var/lib/install/var/lib/install. so it simply makes the issue worse. hence incompatible packages you could consume a great deal of time trying to clean it out and still not be successful... Or just reflash. And start over and install what is meant for the os you wish to use. |

Problem is that I cannot see the system files without terminal so I cannot see what is wrong or is there even anything wrong. Can be something wrong in Application manager with this kind of offline installing? |
