[SFOS] YouTube stopped working, any ideas why?
 

In stock Sailfish Browser, that is.

I used to prefer playing YouTube videos in Sailfish Browser, because I could turn the screen off and it would continue playing. I only need the audio in most videos I watch (political commentaries etc).

It has never been too great because posting and replying to comments has always been a nightmare, but at least the playback worked fine.

But as of yesterday (25 March), it stopped working altogether. At best, a video plays for a tiny fraction of a second and stops. A reboot has not fixed it. I later received an OS update, that has not fixed it either.

Any ideas what might be going on?

I assume something has changed on YouTube side that Jolla's default Browser cannot cope with. A new codec, perhaps?

The funny thing is, YouTube works perfectly fine in the DuckDuckGo browser on my 10 years old, severely under-specced, spare Android phone.

Alternatively, can someone recommend a browser for Sailfish where YouTube works? Video playback, posting comments, replying to comments, editing comments once posted, the full shebang.

Note I need, "Yes, I have been using browser X for watching and posting to YouTube every day for Y years and all the functions you mention work perfectly fine, I bet my first-born child on it!"

I absolutely do NOT need, "I have used browser X for something completely unrelated and I think it should work for YouTube too, I cannot see why not."

Sorry, but "it should work" is exactly the type of answer I explicitly asked NOT to see. Does it work or does it not?

As per my above post, "work" is defined as "watching video, posting comments, replying to comments and editing my own comments after posting".

Life is too short to try every suggestion, only to find yet another "it should work" solution that doesn't. I would rather ditch Sailfish altogether.

maybe it is better to ask this question on https://forum.sailfishos.org there is also angelfish in chum, depending on which device you have, but i didn't test youtube there
