commands in xterm ?¿
hello, I just wanted to know if there was any way of doing "normal" commands from DOS in XTerm... like: ping, ipconfig, telnet.
When I run help, only a small list of commands appear and most of them are not "net related". Obviously any linux command is wellcome too. Thanks, aStor |
Re: commands in xterm ?¿
You won't be able to use dos commands as it isn't dos. However ping should still work. If you install wireless tools you will get more options like iwconfig. Also if you install bash you should get options (I think) like ifconfig (similar to ipconfig).

Re: commands in xterm ?¿
ok, so I should install additional programs, are they on maemo.org?
Other question... is there any comprehensive list of commands of what can I do in xterm? If not I should check each program I download and search for functionalities that I don't know if they are there or not. Ive recently installed kerez and a list of this kind or "common" commands would be great! Thx!! |
Re: commands in xterm ?
What are you trying to achieve here? It would be easier first think of something that you want to do and then find out a way to do it. Asking for "all the commands for xterm" is like asking for all the programs for Windows.
If you just want to learn to use the command line, be creative, use google :) This site seems to be a nice place to start. Oh and you shouldn't really be using telnet for anything in this day and age :) |

Nice to see it worked out. I just googled linux shell guide and the site was third on the list. Seemed like a nice site on a glance :)
