Forum "Viewing" numbers.
 

I'm just a n00b on this site... but are the (# Viewing) counts shown on the main directory screen higher now than they were a few weeks ago? (Thus more people are flocking to this site?)

Just wondering if I should feel good. Perhaps I'm trying to justify buying a N800 just before the rumoured announcement of the new generation.

(I'm impatient. 3 weeks ago I didn't realize that such a thing existed. As soon as I found out about the "Internet Tablet"... I realized that smartphones are awful for any real work... and then my laptop started feeling WAY TOO BIG and bulky. It got heavier and bulkier each day. Until I ordered. Now it's back to merely too big.)

Or I'm just being impatient for UPS. I've never seen one of these things actually WORKING... so I'm antsy. (I had to buy sight unseen. I hope that it is the greatest thing since bread came sliced as many people haved claimed.)

adjust your expectations and you'll be pleasantly surprised...if you expect it to replace your smartphone/pda/laptop all at once, you'll be disappointed.

I probably will never have a cell phone or a pda. No reason. Unless I get rid of the landline. But I would never carry a cell phone around. Not going to happen. I also haven't worn a watch for 15 years. No reason. No place I need to be that bad.

I have a laptop and a MP3 player... but don't expect the N800 to replace either.

My expectations are that the N800 internet tablet will replace all my previous internet tablets.

Yeah the n800 is wonderful.... okay for atleast the next month.... you will be thoroughly addicted to the n800 and you will be stalking these forums like you never would imaging....

Yeah. I got my 770 just a few days ago and can think of nothing else. Too much fun. I'm running on no sleep :p

Stalking? Yeah right. Uh huh. So... anyway... what part of Fort Worth did you say you lived again?? <insert evil grin>

But seriously... I considered that the new unit would come out soon when I ordered my N800. As I mentioned in a previous post... 3 weeks ago I didn't know anything about Internet Tablets. I knew about UMPC's but I consider that anything more than about $400.00 is NOT acceptable for a novelty toy. Then I found the Internet tablet. The price is acceptable.

(I think Nokia has found a "niche". I expect this niche to explode in the future. BUT the price break will always need to be about $400.00 for the main unit. Add-on stuff can be more... but $800.00 or $1200.00 is not acceptable for something "just to be more convenient than a laptop". Or more useable than a smartphone.)

Anyway I figure I'll get hooked and end up buying the new unit without any second thoughts when it comes out. OR if I don't get hooked... at least I have a new GPS unit. (My old Garmin III Plus unit is a bit dated. Only has about 1.5 Mb for maps.)

DANG... where is that darn UPS driver at.... probably eating LUNCH. SLACKER.

If I understand the maemo.org site correctly, the new tablet will be backwards compatible with the N800, and future upgrades to the OS will be compatible with the N800 hardware, so there isn't going to be the same generational break that there was between the 770 and N800.

It should be more like a faster PC coming out, rather than a whole new gen system.


I agree, $200 to $400 is a much more plausible figure, it's around about the same price as an iPod or a decent unlocked phone. A lot of people are willing to buy portable devices in that price range.


It depends what you do with them. If you mainly use your laptop for surfing websites (which is the case for some people), the N800 is a pretty good replacement. :)
