Clear the history of the N800 Google applet

Hi All,

I had a search around and couldn't find this... so thought I'd post it here.

Say you had some things in the Google Search application of your Nokia Internet Tablet you’d rather didn’t pop up every time, how do you clear them?

Simply gainroot, and edit /home/user/.osso/mis/internet-search-applet.xml. You’ll see your past search queries as such:

<strings>

<string>Search phrase you don’t want</string>

There can be multiple entries, just remove the ones you don’t want.

Hope that helps... I also created a new blog where I posted this (and some other stuff n800 related): http://admira.wordpress.com

Re: Clear the history of the N800 Google applet

Pretty serious bump, but i've tried this and it didn't work.

I downloaded the X Terminal thing, typed "edit /home/user/.osso/mis/internet-search-applet.xml" and it said theres no such thing as edit, so just tried the /home.... stuff and it said i couldnt get access (access denied)

Any other way of doing it or clearer instructions available? Any help would be awesome, thanks.

Re: Clear the history of the N800 Google applet

^ Pretty good. *cough*

Anyway, I tried typing "sudo gainroot" into x terminal and it said:

Root shell enabled

BusyBox v1.4.1 etc.

THEN i tried typing the "/home/user...." bit and it says:

/bin/sh: /home/user/.osso....etc....xml: Permission denied

Any ideas anyone? What am I doing wrong?

You'll need to use a text editor to change the file at that path.

The editor that I know is on there by default is vim. so in this case you would type (after the sudo gainroot)

vi /home/user/.osso/mis/internet-search-applet.xml

If you're not familiar with vi or vim you may want to google some of the common editing commands. The main commands in this case would be dd to delete a line and :wq to save the file and quit.

HTH

Re: Clear the history of the N800 Google applet

I've got the vim thing open, and can see the code and the lines I need to delete between the <string> tags.

But I can;t work out how to delete them. :(

I press dd, and it says delete one line with D, so i press D and it deletes the top line...I tried highlighting the lines i wanted to delete and it again deleted the top line...it seems to just delete the highest line.

Any ideas?

Use up/down on the dpad to get to the lines you want to delete.

You need to add the comment that you won't see the changes (i.e. deletions) to the list until you reboot the N8x0.

Reboot shouldn't be necessary, maybe just reload the applet, or similar.
