How to hook up N800 to the TV?
 

HI, I have been reading this forum for a while, everybody seems like they know a lot.

anyway, I was watching a cast on google where someone had their n800 hooked up to the TV, how can you do that???

The only way I can think of is to run vncserver on the tablet, and then use vncviewer from a computer (laptop) connected to a tv...

I am not sure if that is it, I cannot find the video again... It was on google video and a guy at the nokia summit was taping the n800, and some lady had hers hooked up to a huge TV and she was showing stuff on it... it looked like she had a cord coming from the TV.

any ideas?

OK, I found the video I was talking about, if you don't want to watch it, scroll to the end and you can see the n800 on the LCD screen, pretty freaking cool. If I could find out how to do that, it would rock!

Looks line the Audio port of the N800. That's where the cable seems to be connected.

The N810 has the connector specified as AV connector in it's specs.

Huh.. She's also streaming the N800's video to the LCD screen.

Probably it was a specially prepared test unit.
Afaik the omap has video output available, but it isn't connected anywhere, maybe they just connected it to the headphones socket for the show.
Edit: or as lmf says, they were just running vncserver on the tablet and the tv was connected to a computer running vncviewer, while the cable you see was used only for audio.

The CES units were running VNC servers over USB ethernet to laptops connected to the displays, AIUI.

mmm. how hard would that be to do? is there a way just to hook up the n800 to the TV w/o another computer. as it is my main goal.

everyday, I want to switch to archos, it seems like it is more user friendly, and I can hook it up to the TV!

Ha! It's Victor! He's a cool guy.
I think that particular unit had something going on that allowed TV out for demonstration purposes.

Just for my own amusement, I hooked a standard 1/8" AV cable (the one that came with my digital camera) to the headphone jack and plugged it in to my N800 and N810. None of the (left/right/video) RCA outputs put out a video signal. If it's there, it requires software too.
