How do I 'Save Target As'?
Hi everyone
I am trying to watch .asf files on my Nokia n800 - because these don't play on the default media player, I have installed mplayer but I need to download the files to the Internet Tablet before being able to open them in mplayer. When I go to the website with all the files listed, on my PC I would simply right-click on the file I want and choose 'Save Target As' - however I cannot figure out how to do this on the Nokia. If I just click the link, it tries to play the file in Media Player and consequently fails. How do I force the browser to download the file, so I can then open it in mplayer? Thanks in advance. Martin. |
Re: How do I 'Save Target As'?
The equivalent of a right-click is to click and hold on the link. IE press the stylus down and don't move it (while still pressing down). That should bring up a context menu, if available.

Re: How do I 'Save Target As'?
Thanks for your reply. I have done this before, but the menu that appears doesn't include any option to download a specific linked file, only the whole page.

Re: How do I 'Save Target As'?
I thought the best solution for this might be to change the fact it associates .asf files with mediaplayer and just treat them like any other file. I did a grep for any files containing the string .asf and found a few that look promising. When I get home (its morning here in Australia) I'll have a play around, can you give me a link to the website you are trying this from so I can test it out?

Re: How do I 'Save Target As'?
Here is a page from the site listing files I want to play on the Internet Tablet:

Re: How do I 'Save Target As'?
Hmmm I can see how to change the default file type of this (involves adding an entry to /usr/share/mime/globs) and that seemed to make it work. But this also means that mplayer won't launch it.
So I'm not sure how to make the browser download it but mplayer launch it. Sorry I can't be more help. I'll sleep on it and see if anything springs to mind. |
Re: How do I 'Save Target As'?
Thanks. It certainly seems odd that there is no way of downloading files to a place you specify on the tablet.

Quote:
1) click&hold on the link to bring up the ''right-click' menu [imprecise clicks bring up the 'add bookmark' menu instead] and click on 'Copy link location' 2) - open up osso-xterm to the directory you wish to save the asf file to. - type: wget & then paste the link you copied earlier and hit enter PS You'll probably find 'wget' in the Application Manager's 'Browse installable applications' in case you have not installed it yet. |
Re: How do I 'Save Target As'?
I am a newbie when it comes to these tablets - what is xterm? Is it something I need to install?

Re: How do I 'Save Target As'?
I also found yesterday if you click on one of the links and then go to close the browser it will show you the location it is saving it to. Its in /var/tmp so I'm not sure if it will stay there though but worth looking into. I left my n800 at home so I can't look at it right now...
