It works for me, and resurrecting threads from last year, when a different version of the OS was available, is not likely to help much.

What's so hard about just trying it?

from one of your previous posts, i see that you are running OS2007 on an n800. AFAIK, it did work, but there is a newer OS (2008) and the current flite package does work without issue.

maybe look into flashing the device to the newest OS, and install flite.

I just got new N810 and installed maemo mapper on it. Wondering if FLITE is good enough to install to have voice commands...

using the app manager program, the most current version of the app in the repositories is listed.

being that the ITTs are not the same platform as your desktop computer, the newest version of flite for x86 may not be available for the nokia n8x0. the code needs to be ported to this platform.

for all intents and purposes, the version of flite available from the repos is all you need for voice directions in mapper.
