Outlook Web Access
 

I posted a review of Outlook Web Access (or OWA) on my blog (http://admira.wordpress.com/2007/10/...ternet-tablet/)

I won't put it all here but the long and the short of it is that the two browser engines (MicroB and Opera) actually look very different. I have screenshots on my blog so feel free to have a look.

Personally I prefer the Opera rendering of OWA.

OWA in later versions supports SOAP web services. I'm having a really hard time consuming them in Python (read as: impossible so far) but if we could get that figure out, we could write an OWA->IMAP proxy, connect it to Modest, and...well, you get the idea. :)

I prefer Opera as well.

What no Konqueror, I can use OWA in KDE and print Excel and WordDocs. 2007 OWA allows you to open attachments in webpages. Interestingly enough it does not work with 2007 .docx extensions, but 2003 and below work great.

Yup printing Microsoft Word and Excel Docs from my IT, woo hoo!!!

Would you say you generally prefer the opera browser or just for OWA?

For commercial use, what I'd love to see is an iPass client and full java support for the n800. But hey maybe thats just me :)

Ummm well I can't say I've tried KDE on my n800 ... I just googled how to do it, are the instructions at http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ead.php?t=5474 still valid?

I generally prefer Opera, and I specifically prefer it for OWA --- I'm actually missing out on all of the GreaseMonkey love simply because I need OWA so badly. :)

We're running OWA 2007 here.

Additional Tip for efficient use of space with Opera. I call it the 'Don't need any stinking NAV Bar' option.

The OWA is a framed page. Opera Browser has an option to open "This Frame" Open in new window. If you put the cursor (pen) in the detail area of OWA and hold it there the right click menu will appear with the "This Frame" menu. You can then save this bookmark and access the Inbox directly without the Nav Bar portion of the OWA page, this makes reading the email much easier. Using just the Inbox in full screen is one of the best email client views I have seen.

You can replace the /Inbox with /calendar or other frame areas if you are interested. I find that bookmarking the Inbox and calendar are enough for me.

For the ultimate in irony, I could never completely understand how OWA looks better in Firefox than in IE...go figure//

Good tip, I had no idea you could do that!

I did say before I was going to update this review, but due to the lab environment I am using having some non standard attachment handling add-ons I'll have to give it a miss for now. But I am in the process of doing a review of how the n800 handles the google mail/calender, and I'll post a summary here for anyone who is interested.
