email set up help please
Help !!!
I just updated mine with the new 06 OS which is night and day from the previous version. However, it wiped out all my previous information and I am frustrated again not being able to send & receive email. Here are my current settings and if someone could go over each line and spot a mistake I'd be very thankful. ---- Screen 1 Mailbox name: Mailbox (or Account ?) Mailbox type: POP3 Screen 2 Name: my name User name: xxxx@gmail.com Password: ******** Email address: xxxx@gmail.com Screen 3 Incoming server (POP3): pop.gmail.com Outgoing server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com Screen 4 Advanced button e-mail settings Retrieval: Retrieve: Headers only Leave e-mail on server: checked E-mail size limit (kB): 1000 Password authentication: Normal Security: SSL (POP3S) Sending: SMTP server SMTP authentication: Login User name: xxxx@gmail.com Password: ********** Security: SSL Outgoing email port: 465 Composing: Sending Default e-mail format: Formatted text (HTML) Send e-mail: Immediately Include original in reply: checked Request read report: Not checked Security: Other Security: None Incoming e-mail port: 995 Security: SSL Outgoing e-mail port: 465 Use specific connection: Not checked Security Nothing checked |
Re: email set up help please
It's so long ago that I set up my account so I can't verify if your steps are correct, unfortunately. I just wanted to say that if you had used the backup/restore function to make a backup before you upgraded then the upgrade would have asked if you wanted the backup restored, which would have preserved your email settings. If you get it working again, remember to backup before upgrading to OS2008.. ;)

Re: email set up help please
I thought about backing up "while" being updated... I did not want to cancel the process once it began.

Re: email set up help please
I am not a gmail user so I can't vouch for the particular gmail settings.
However, more information would help: 1) What is not working (sending, receiving or both)? 2) How are you connected to the interenet (bluetooth tethered phone, public wireless, private wireless)? Fred |

2) I am connected to home router. Netgear. Again, email had been working fine at home and away upuntil now. Thanks... (it's funny that I went through exact same thing when I first got my N770 last year. I eventually figured it out, but it took weeks) |
Re: email set up - here's how
 I cannot believe the hundreds of you could not help me on this. After spending millions of hours reading and researching, I figured it out myself. For future readers, here is how.
Follow the set up shown on the first post of this string. Then when setting up POP and SMTP, write "POP.GoogleMail" instead of "POP.Gmail" I actually found this from somewhere on this site. Now my email is working great, and I am happy! :) |
