New N800 User, Problems
 

hi i bought this beautiful machine today
and im having problems watching videos at normal speeds, not only from youtube, but movies i downloaded to my sdhc cards.
can someone please tell me what to do? pleaseeee
i try downloading python and other software and it says there are some packages are missing

Flash is still a little slow on the current OS release. With it, you have a two options: 1. Let it finish loading before you play and deal with the slightly reduced framerate, 2. Get yourself a copy of UKETUBE and mplayer, and use those for slightly inconvenient full-speed playback. Flash playback will be fixed with the release of OS2008 in a few weeks, so it's probably best to wait for that.

The N800 plays back video most effectively in MPEG4 at a resolution no greater than 400x240 between 24-30fps and with a bitrate of 1000-1500Kbps, with MP3 audio. Normally formated desktop videos will not work. Try something like Media Converter for easier re-encoding.

Sounds like you're missing repositories. First, you need to enable the Extras repository that's disabled by default (Application Manager menu -> Tools -> Application catalog...), which should take care of those dependencies, but I would also add all of the OS2007 repositories here to your catalog.

but i still couldnt fix any of the problems, i did what you told me, i enable everything you told me , but it keep saying that some packages are missing
what do i have to download exactly for to watch videos at normal speed? from internet and movies from the memory card?

Try mplayer for the videos.

The Nokia repos were down/flaky yesterday, assuming you've added and enabled the repos listed at the url above, you should have mplayer in the list in application manager (and probably likewise the other missing libs, etc.)
