Which browser ? MicroB-or-Opera
I have searched this site and Googled the Internet for an answer to the issue below. Sorry if this has been answered someplace already but I could not find the answer even though I searched intently.
I have MicroB ( in addition to Opera ) browsers on my N800. A frustration had been not knowing which browser is running. Launching the browser and pulling down the upper left menu and selecting "set engine" always shows MicroB highlighted, so that does not work as an indicator. I know the last browser used is the browser that launches subsequently but I often cannot remember which N800 browser I last used, my mind simply refuses to store that byte (and writing it down on paper or in the N800 somewhere seems totally lame). A work around I came up with was to set the Opera home page to www.opera.com, and the MicroB home page to www.mozilla.org so each time I launch the N800 browser I can tell which browser was invoked by which home page screen initially appears. Is this what the rest of you do? Seems so clunky. It prevents me from switching the home pages to something else more useful because then I lose my browser engine indicator. Any help here is appreciated. Thank you for your replies. M5 |
Re: Which browser ? MicroB-or-Opera
I don't use MicroB (yet), but maybe create a bookmark to the URL "about:" (no http:// or anything else)
It works on Opera. Found a wiki entry for it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/About%3A_URI_scheme |
Re: Which browser ? MicroB-or-Opera
Just open a new browser window. If the default webpage is yellowish, you're in Microb.

Thinking about it, I guess I can leave the Opera homepage set to Opera.com, and then if I change the microB homepage to anything I want ( such as InternetTabletTalk ) I'll know which browser is invoked by opening a new window per ZeroJay's suggestion, if it isn't showing me opera.com as a homepage, then I'm running microB. That frees up one of my homepage settings at least. Thanks. I'm not complaining about the situation, I am glad we have a choice of browsers. Am I the only one who finds it odd how it is difficult to tell which one is running though? Regards, |
Re: Which browser ? MicroB-or-Opera
Well, once IT2008 is officially released, you won't have to worry about it anymore, as there won't be a choice anymore... and the whole reason why it's not easy to tell is because the Microb in your hands is a beta and it wasn't deemed important enough to work on code to show you what browser you're using since it'll be thrown out anyways.

Re: Which browser ? MicroB-or-Opera
Thank you Technut (and Alvin) that is a good suggestion. It isn't as quick & easy as ZeroJay's suggestion because I have to pull up the virtual keyboard, but the "about:" suggestion is nice in that it provides me another way to do it, and I get so much information about the browser as well. I like all these suggestions. Thank you.

Re: Which browser ? MicroB-or-Opera
As I said, just make about: a bookmark and then you don't need to use the keyboard. But I'm done repeating myself... cya
