Interesting info on wayfinder about os 2008
"Internet Tablet OS 2008 includes an integrated Map application. You can use your old Navicore Personal 2007 license key to activate navigation features of the map application. After entering your license key, the activated Wayfinder Navigator application provides equivalent navigation features compared to Navicore Personal 2007."
Does this mean that the new os for n800 will come with Navicore personal? |
Re: Interesting info on wayfinder about os 2008
Either that or they've arranged to transfer the licenses instead of making someone who just bought the bundle spend another XXX dollars mere months later. (Unlike when the N800 was released and 770 owners were left in a lurch).

Re: Interesting info on wayfinder about os 2008
770 owners could transfer their license to the 800.

Re: Interesting info on wayfinder about os 2008
Yeah, but it sounds like the n800 "gps bundle" won't be supported on OS2008. So there would still need to be a supported program regardless of the license being valid.

Yes but we bought a lifetime licence from Navicore and it is mooted that the Wayfinder facility will only last for 3 years. If this is true then we will be rooked by adopting OS2008.
I would expect Wayfinder to fully honour the terms of our Navicore licence but it is not yet clear whether they will do so. |

Um... I'm running it now on OS2008 with no problems. What GPS "bundle" are you referring to? And Rebski... I made that point sometime ago in a post. We will just have to wait and see what the new terms are. BTW, I've been all over both the old and new apps (post coming later). From what I see there is no way that the software is time limited and it should continue to work for as long as it is on the device. What can be time limited is access to their server for map updates and such. In that case, as was also said before, 3 years is a long time for map support in the personal navigator bid'ness. :) |

BTW I am using Wayfinder, having downloaded all the maps. GPS is not available of course but Find Location works very well. It is cool having street maps for so much of the world on an sd card. It would be nice if it could be kept that way and only Route Finder and Directions restricted to the specific licensed territory. As you say, we shall have to wait and see. |

I wasn't looking for any credit... I guess I was saying the same thing as you about forum fragmentation ... Tomorrow I'll post how to make and install custom POI categories in Wayfinder... Without the need of a license, BTW. |
Re: Interesting info on wayfinder about os 2008
As a follow on, GPS is actually working. It just took so long for the satellites to lock on that I assumed it wasn't.
This is not a Wayfinder issue of course, more to do with my location in London and the need to put the GPS transceiver outside on the window ledge. I look forward to the custom POI categories how-to. Curiously Wayfinder has stopped nagging me about licence activation and notice of pending live service in December. |
