Re: problem installing gizmo on n810
There's another thread with this on OS2008 / N800, and I think a solution. Don't remember where. Try a search.

Re: problem installing gizmo on n810
It's a bug. Basically both packages (the "gizmo-installer" package and the "gizmo" package) are trying to provide the same file (/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/hildon/gizmo-project.png).
I was able to get around it by bringing up a shell as root (using gainroot) and then getting rid off the installer with: Code:
dpkg -r gizmo-installer Actually I think you should be able to just uninstall gizmo-install through Application Manager itself now that I think about it. |
Re: problem installing gizmo on n810
actually the terminal command is "dpkg -r gizmo-installer"
thanks for the speedy answers |
Re: problem installing gizmo on OS2008
For the sake of the next person trying to install Gizmo on OS2008 (N810 or N800)... here's the lowdown.
It is ironic, but when Nokia included a small (135KB) installer app/icon for Gizmo in the OS2008 menu, they actually broke the Gizmo install. The Nokia installer and the Gizmo installer conflict over an icon that they both use. How to get Gizmo installed ------------------------- When you run the Nokia installer it adds the repository you need in order to get Gizmo, so if you have already tried the install once then you have the Gizmo repository in your App Manager already. If not, you can get it with a one-click install here: http://gronmayer.com/n800/repos/dl.php?id=129 Once that is done you can use either a) Application Manager, or you can use b) X Terminal (if you have root access... that's a whole other deal... search "becomeroot" or "R&D mode"). Application Manager method --------------------------- From the main menu, open Settings / Application Manager. You'll need to be in "red pill mode" for this next step because otherwise you won't be able to see the Nokia installer. To do that, in App Manager pick Tools / Application catalog... / New. Jump down to the Web address line, remove the "http://" and instead type "matrix", then hit Cancel. When asked which pill, choose Red. Now Close the catalog list and click "Show installed applications". Find and uninstall "gizmo-installer". You can now go back to "Blue pill mode" using the same method as above but choose Blue. Then Browse installable applications, pick "user/communication" and install "gizmo-project". You're done. X Terminal method ------------------ From the main menu, open Utilities / X Terminal and become root (see b above). Remove the Nokia installer with the command: dpkg -r gizmo-installer Then while you're still in X Terminal, install gizmo with the command apt-get install gizmo-project You're done. |

Re: problem installing gizmo on n810
Gizmo was bought by Google and shut down. Try another SIP provider with Dial Central.
