N800 tethered to Wifi phone.
My n800 arrived a few days ago and I’m so impressed with it. I had a nightmare trying to tether it to my mobile phone. You see, I flashed my phone to mobile 6 and now realise that M$ has removed Bluetooth DUN and replaced it with Bluetooth PAN. The n800 does not support PAN so I had to find another way.
After hours of scouring the internet for a solution I came across a right gem. It’s basically a simple script that changes a line in the registry of the mobile phone (pocket pc). So instead of using bluetooth for it's ICS it now uses much faster WIFI. Now I can connect to my mobile phone over WIFI using ad-hoc and it’s very fast as I am with T-mobile and they support HSDPA. Also my mobile can now be used as a gateway with anything that has WIFI. Surfing speed is the same as when I am on my home wifi network, pages just take seconds to render. Can’t wait for OS2008 Rob:D |

Re: N800 tethered to Wifi phone.
Just in case any one is looking for info about ppc6700 and sharing inter net over wifi on sprints network. i can confirm it works with the n800. It is soooooooo much faster than bluetooth. And wm6 is available on this phone finally!!!!
i used a cooked rom i built with the kitchen http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11074 but if you want you can use the pre-built rom from here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=7671 or a clean version from here(no extra software) http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=9841 then use this program to set up the connection. it also works as a router with nat!!!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341398 set up the n800 in ad-hoc. I could not get dhcp to work right on the n800 for some reason. You might need to set a static ip with the dns and the gateway as the ip address of the phone. sprints dns might be better, you can find it here http://www.sprint.net/index.php?module=faq/dns |

Re: N800 tethered to Wifi phone.
My mobile will not even last that long.
That's why I also carry a Powermonkey with me. |
Re: N800 tethered to Wifi phone.
Ya my 6700 lasts about 15 min with the cell radio and the wi-fi going at the same time. Even with the blue tooth dun it only lasted about 30min. If i'm some where theres no external power ill suffer the speed decrease. But usually i have some sort of outlet. I don't mind plugging it up. The n800 should last a while since its only using wi-fi and it lasts some time while browsing at home on my network.
