Would PHP-GTK be possible?
Lowly PHP developer here...
I would love to create some more "native" Maemo apps but don't really have the time right now to add Python or full blown GTK programming to my to-do list. (unless someone wants a 2 year old for a couple months) So I'm looking for some input from the developer gods on ITT. :D Assuming I have a working PHP install on OS2008, do you think it would be possible to compile and use PHP-GTK to create apps? http://gtk.php.net/ Is it possible? Hopless? Any input would be helpful at this point.. It certainly seems like it could bring some PHP developers into the fold -- or maybe that's a "bad" thing. :D |
Re: Would PHP-GTK be possible?
Anybody out there with GTK experience or interest in this? :D

Re: Would PHP-GTK be possible?
fellow php developer here that will definitely be greatly thankful and will pump out many apps if this happens :)

I can say that php-gtk will compile through the maemo 5 sdk. Here is a screenshot for now until I get some instructions together

Please post these instructions. I am considering leaving Android for Nokia because of PHP-GTK. I have already written several applications for the OpenMoko in PHP-GTK, and I would love to continue writing PHP-GTK on the Nokia N900! I am about to buy 2x N900 for both me and my GF, if I can use PHP-GTK on them :-) |
Re: Would PHP-GTK be possible?
While it is possible, what benefit besides your lack of programming knowledge would PHP-GTK bring to Maemo?
We already have GTK, QT, GTK-mm, SDL, Perl, and Python. Pretty soon the 2GB of app space will be filled up with support libraries alone... |

Is it worth pointing out that PHP-Hildon does not exist? :)

Re: Would PHP-GTK be possible?
Just a quick update - I bought the phones and set up a repository with PHP-GTK.
It works fine. I also compiled some of the most used extensions for PHP (mysqp, pqsql, ftp, xml* and so on). Please see this post on how to set up the repository and then do a "apt-cache search php": http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=39797 |
