Any Boingo users here? A few questions...

I am very seriously considering purchasing an N810, and as I will be travelling all next year I was interested in the Boingo mobile deal for £3.85 a month or some very similar figure. But I looked into individual hotspot locations, and keep getting the message that use of the service at that place will be charged to my account at $0.12 a minute. So what would I be paying Boingo for in the first place?

Does anyone else pay Boingo to use their service in Europe? Is it worth it?

On behalf of Boingo...

oddgoblin & hans-castorp --to answer your questions:

The per-minute fees are only for the "Boingo Unlimited" plan customers, which is a laptop account for North American usage. The "Boingo Mobile" account provides unlimited access to all hotspots with no premium fees.

Boingo Mobile is currently available for Nokia Internet Tablets, Nokia S60 smartphones, and Windows Mobile 5 devices at this time. Windows Mobile 6 will be available soon.

Could you elaborate / clarify on the different plans -- it's not exactly clear from your Web site.

At http://www.boingo.com/, two plans are presented: Laptop WiFi vs Mobile WiFi at $21.95 vs $7.95 / mo. Presumably, both plans give you access to the same set of global APs -- so what are the technical characteristics of both plans that justify these very different rates?

On page, http://www.boingo.com/services.html, yet another breakdown is presented: Boingo Unlimited vs Boingo Global vs Boingo AsYouGo at $21.95 vs $39 vs $7.95... then there's the hiddent issue of roaming fees, which some international APs charge.

I'll tell you in my city San Francisco: almost none.
Seems to be for other countries like europe - maybe some other US cities have more.
PS there is another recent thread which talks a lot about hotspots and wifi and boingo,
