GPS / Google Maps integration
I am still on the fence regarding the N810 and its GPS. Is it / can it be integrated some ways with Google maps? Say, a simple script which gets lattitude/longitude and starts a Google maps URL... I believe Google maps supports lat/long.

Re: GPS / Google Maps integration
See the Maemo Mapper application for your enlightenment https://garage.maemo.org/projects/maemo-mapper/ I know work is being done to ensure it operates with the integrated GPS of the N810
Also a simple search of the forum would have found quickly what you were looking for. i.e. Searching on "maemo mapper google maps" provides these threads http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...earchid=809549 Do take time to get to grips with ALL the features of Maemo Mapper as its well worth it! One application that everyone should have on their Internet Tablets whatever flavour and version of OS (OS 2006, 2007 & 2008) Maemo mapper works as advertised. Its a perfect application in my humble opinion, for Nokia 770 & N800 users, get yourselves a bluetooth GPS for Christmas and install Maemo Mapper if you have not already done so |

Wow, MikeL, thanks for the glowing endorsement! :)
As for your question, chx, I don't think the N810 provides the specific functionality about which you have asked, but there is a built-in mapping program (called "Wayfinder") that allows you to view maps of your current location and surrounding areas. No direct connectivity with Google Maps, but it shows the same kind of data (including the ability to search for points of interest, I think?). And yes, Maemo Mapper also provides that functionality. |

Hi
A Google Map displaying tablet users is available here : http://david.hautbois.free.fr/maps/index.php You have to specify your position manually. When I receive the N810, I will develop an application to update your account position automatically. David. |
Re: GPS / Google Maps integration
Think of this situation. You are travelling and you are using public transport... and you can see on the N810 when to get off because it integrates with google maps transit. Given the amount I travel... this functionality alone would worth easily the five hundred the N810 costs. As far as I know, no GPS device has public transport info.

http://www.google.com/transit Tampa transit http://www.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&h...e=dep&dirflg=r Transit data are provided by local transit agencies like http://www.hartline.org/ Transit algorithm is not really sophisticated. It can process timetable data or real data acquired from gps-enabled vehicles monitoring system. More advanced systems are based on real-time gps monitoring of vehicles, providing access to city maps showing location of each vehicle, its speed, route and predicted arrival time. Darius |
Re: GPS / Google Maps integration
"More advanced systems" -- care to elaborate with an example? Also, if I do not know where I am, then I am hardly helped by knowing the exact positiion every bus in the city, I think.
Am I alone with this problem? Noone else ever got lost in a foreign city? I am lame. |

Also, If you know your stop going in, you could also set it as a favorite then ask Wayfinder to warn you X distance from the spot. |

I know this can be done, I'm just not sure how easy it is to do for an arbitrary city that you don't know. |
