Changing Home Page

I just reflashed my N800 with OS2008, again. I refalshed because I thought one of the apps was causing my problem. Which is, after installing some apps I noticed that after I changed my home page to www.msnbc.com the browser would close when asked to open a new browser window or when I selected go to my home page. I found this also happened when I manually entered a new URL. This did not occur when using any of the previously set bookmarks to create a new session.

This is a newly flashed N800 with nothing extra installed. Anyone else having the problem? Also still can't get Garnet to install.

Upon further investigation I found more strangeness. I cannot access any site that is specifically a 'news' site. MSNBC, CNN, FOXNEWS, GOOGLE NEWS. The browser shuts down after displaying 'connecting'. I know this is weird but it is true. There is some commonality there besides 'news' I just know it. But.....

Re: Changing Home Page

There was a bug reported that after certain flashes, the N800 would still be stuck on opera and not microb.

Load Xterm and type

grep engine ~/.browser

it should say engine=microb, if it says engine=opera you need to change it.

Once source said to type this in x-term
perl -pi.0 -e 's/engine=opera/engine=microb/' ~/.browser

and a second said to type

cp ~/.browser ~/.browser.bak
cat ~/.browser.bak | sed "s/engine=opera/engine=microb/" > ~/.browser

I used the latter and no more crashes for me.
