Weird mix of kde by ssh and maemo desktop

I did an ssh -X to my kubuntu box, then gave startkde on the terminal. Here is the result, weird!

My opera browser window is included in the kicker bar (that's the weirdness  ), and I can open both local maemo apps from the maemo menu, and remote kde apps from the k button.
This was quick as long as I'm on my lan; don't think would be responsive on wan. But it's so nice!

COOL! Tried it across my VPN from home this weekend. Real slow like you thought - but usable if you are patient.

Shortly afterward I had an after effect (I think it was related). Icons across the top and the panels on the left side went away. Assuming a crash of that app. The desktop and applets stayed up and running though. OS08 on an 810.

Can't wait to have by friend try it on his 770 and see the look on his face.

Somehow I think starting Gnome with Compiz enabled won't go over well. But I'll try. :D

But opera seems to be dodging the KDE panel? Not what I'd have expected, if matchbox is still running. So I assume kwm supplanted matchbox. Do you know if this is correct?

What I'm thinking is, if this really is matchbox understanding that a KDE panel should be avoided by non-full-screen apps, then any window can set the appropriate wm hints, and receive the same treatment. Like a custom input-window, or a media-player bar, or ...
Otherwise, if this is kwm's doing, then it's as expected: such things require running your own window manager, which we all know is possible, but a lot of fooling around.
