Newbie - Use of Flash Slots

My question has to do with optimizing the use of the internal/removable flash (slot by battery). I added a swap partition to it, but I'm unsure the best way to continue using it.

Is there anyway to access it from the USB mode from a PC? Currently only the removable is shown.

Is there any way to say that all new apps installed will go there? Is there any plusses/minuses to doing that vs. the (true) internal flash?

Is there any speed differences (that anyone knows about) between the external removable flash slot and internal removable flash slot? (Ie: could/should problem media files be moved to the 'faster' slot)?

On a slightly related note: I would love to install the OS2008 software on flash, just to try it out. Can any point me to straightforward instructions on how to dual boot? (I did do a lot of searching, but the posts/sites I found had definite caveats).

Thanks in Advance...

I'll try to answer your questions as best as I can.

When I connect my N800/OS2008 to my Vista PC, I see both memory cards as separate drives. I believe that is the normal behaviour. Is the next drive letter above the card you see available on your PC? Wondering if you have a mapped network drive or something at the next logical drive letter.

Doesn't sound easy to put apps on the cards. See my similar question and the answers here:

No speed difference between the slots that I've heard of.

Mixing OS2008 and OS2007 in dual boot results in Wi-Fi not working.. can't remember which is broke but I think it is OS2007. There are other threads that discuss this... sounds like you found them.

AFAIK, there is no way of accessing the extra partitions on the flash drives via USB. Secondly, the way dual booting usually works is that you copy your current system to the SD card and then install the new system to the (internal) flash. This can certainly be done with OS2007 and OS2008, but as technut said, you will not be able to use WiFi with the OS2007 installation, which renders it pretty useless IMHO.

Re: Newbie - Use of Flash Slots

When you plug in the USB cable the N800 will first unmount the cards before making them visible for the PC (i.e. you can either access the cards from the N800 or the PC, not both at the same time). But if an application holds a file open on a card the N800 can't unmount it, and thus can't make it available for the PC over USB. It's the same if you have a swap file there: Can't unmount. You would first have to turn off the extended VM (in control panel) if you want the internal card to be visible to the PC.
