Xournal works!!

for all those interested i did some digging and found a version of xournal that works on N810/os2008. add the following repositories:

Catalog Name: Extras Devel Catalog

Url: http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel

Dist:chinook

Components:free non-free

and:

Catalog Name:Anidel

Url: http://mango.dia.unisa.it/maemo

Dist:chinook

Components:free non-free

also , heres the link to the porters blog so you can leave comments , report bugs , request features... etc http://anidel.blogspot.com/2007/12/x...8-is-here.html

so far , the only bugs i have found is that the fullscreen button on the n810 doesnt work for it as of yet , but clicking on fullscreen in the dropdown menu works fine. and the only other bug so far is that is you leave the app on and arent doing anything with it for a minute or so it closes. i have already reported these bugs on his blog. hope this is a help to everyone that wants this app on their N810:)

Re: Xournal works!!

It doesn't work for me. I have an N800 running os2008. I install the two repositories and find Xournal in the installable programs list. I get a message saying Xournal can't be installed. It appears that libart2.0 and libgnome canvas or something like that are missing. I didn't have them listed in applications manager, so I went into Red Pill mode and they were listed there, but wouldn't install.

Re: Xournal works!!

It's shouldn't be an 800 vs 810 issue, but I'm sure it will work its way out somehow. I'm not in a rush :)

Re: Xournal works!!

well from what i understand the os2008 i assume you are running isnt the "official release" version for the n800.. if thats the case im betting thats where the problem lies

Re: Xournal works!!

Hi,

libart2.0 and libcanvas are among the dependencies provided by my own repository.
And that's the very same one for Xournal. Very weird it lists them but doesn't install them.

I tried installing it on my N800 with Os2008 official beta.

By the way, did you guys tried the .install file ?
It's here:

http://mango.dia.unisa.it/maemo/xournal.install
(even tho the microb browser doesn't seem to recognize it as a .install file, you can save it and double-click on it from the File manager)

geneven, could you provide me more info about the error it says ?
You should not need to be in red-pill mode to install it.

Moreover there are other few issues to solve:

a) it crashes sometimes after one or two minutes of usage
b) it won't react to zoom in/out and fullscreen buttons (yet)
c) issues in exporting to PDF

Re: Xournal works!!

i did find another quirk about fullscreen mode , the hardware button works when the keyboard is slid out

Re: Xournal works!!

Thanks. So it's an issue with the way OS2008 handles the fullscreen buttons and the way Xournal handles it.

At least I know where to look for :)

Re: Xournal works!!

Hi Anidel,

First of all a big thanks for the port. It makes my n800 finally usable for jotting notes on articles for study. It still crashes randomly though. I found out that if I comment out these lines in /usr/applications/hildon/Xournal.desktop the app is more stable:

X-Osso-Type=application/x-executable
X-Osso-Service=org.anidel.xournal

Are there any downsides to commenting out these lines?

Furthermore the install link seems to be removed from downloads.maemo.

just updated xournal a few minutes ago on my N810. the fullscreen button issue seems to be resolved , but the application still closes after a minute or so.
