Impressions:

1: Security based on MAC addresses is really useless.
2: I sincerely hope the generated addresses don't clash with actual user's MAC addresses since this may invalidate their valid license.
3: Check at runtime that the Wayfinder code corresponds to current MAC address. You'd have to continuously run macchanger with the spoofed MAC to get things working.
4: Goto 1.

Frankly, I think better maps are available through MaemoMapper anyway.

how can i get macchanger for os 2008 , i downloaded that .deb , but when i went to install it said incompatible installation package

yebbas, if you don't reboot n800 you only have to run macchanger once every 7 days.

I think we'd be better off hacking the map format and then writing our own routing algorithms using the same methods as Navit or one of the other free map/routing implementations.

The problem here (aside from the obvious ethical issues) is coliding with another person's MAC address. Screwing some company out of their dollars may be one thing, but screwing some poor schmuck out of his trial and, possibly, his license is just a dick thing to do.

Besides, does Macchanger actually work. I have never met anyone who has been able to connect to the Internet after using this version. It changes the MAC alright, but on attempting to connect you get an "Error connecting to the network - try again?" error.

Only rebooting to the burned in MAC will restore connectivity. Certainly that's my experience...
