GPS even worse in new OS2008?
Does anyone else feel that GPS functionality is even more unreliable / slow in the new firmware release? It feels like the unit does a cold start every time now, even if I switch GPS off for just a few seconds.
On a related note, I wish Nokia would opensource gpsdriver. |
Re: GPS even worse in new OS2008?
I just upgraded yesterday so I really haven't had time to test it out much, but it seems like there are fewer sats visible after the upgrade than there were before.

Re: GPS even worse in new OS2008?
Before upgrade to 50-2, the N810 could see several sats ( with 4 in green) from in my office at the house. After 50-2 upgrade, N810 can only see 1-2 sats indoors. I have to go outside to get 4 green ones.
I would go back to previous OS2008 release but I would like to use N810 as nav device, and well, thats out. |
Re: GPS even worse in new OS2008?
Hmm. Someone said it used the Sirius III chipset (if i'm right), are there any open source drivers out there for that particular chipset that could be used instead?

Re: GPS even worse in new OS2008?
I've found the GPS functions to be perfect, but I use OS2008 for N800 using a bluetooth GPS with SiRF Star III chipset, personally I think its more accurate, but that could have nothing to do with OS2008 and just in my head. (maemo mapper actually has me on roads and not on footpaths or in tree area's)

Re: GPS even worse in new OS2008?
Has anybody noticed this bug, I have a newly flashed N800 (OS2008)
and I'm using an external GPS that connects via bluetooth. Then I select "My Selection" and "Map" after the application open I then select GPS, a dialogue box opens with the GPS display, "No GPS Connection" even though tje "Connect to GPS" is checked. I then go into the "Setting" "Control Panel" "GPS location" and pair with a new device and searches for the new device, so good so far. It then asks to pair using the four digit code. The problem is that the GPS does not have a keyboard to enter the pairing digits. Does anyone have a work around for this basic bug? |
Re: GPS even worse in new OS2008?
There is no need to pair gps unit under Linux

Re: GPS even worse in new OS2008?
I have been unable to get either Tomtom 1 ver 3 with BT enable to pair with n800 (2008) or SG289 data logger.
Maemo mapper will not find them and although N800 can see them will not pair...:( |
Re: GPS even worse in new OS2008?
I don't have OS2008 installed yet, but my BT TomTom GPS Mark I works fine with Maemo Mapper on OS2007. But:
1) There's no need to pair with it (as in pairing in the control panel), and 2) If Maemo Mapper has been set up to work with one BT GPS (it takes note of its BT MAC address) it won't work with another BT GPS (the N800 sees it but MM won't use it). You have to go through MM's BT GPS configuration again. I was bitten by this one when I couldn't get MM to work with my friend's GPS (exactly the same as mine). |

As for pairing the two devices, my GPS reciever is set to 0000, so i just need to type 0000 on the N800, and added the GPS to Bluetooth Devices. Now the N800 finds and connects to the GPS everytime i start Wayfinder. |
