Removing languages to save space?
OS 2008 includes 16 languages and im using one of them.
Theres also dictionaries for the keyboard to use in all these languages. Ive tried searching some on both google and this forum but i couldnt find any information at all about removing the languages youre not using. As this device runs Linux and Xterm is included by default i think it would be easy to remove them. Why would you do this? To save space of course. The N800 has 250mb internal memory and about 90mb is used after a "clean" install (correct me if im wrong, i dont have any exact information). I think if you would remove the languages you would get at least 30mb more space. Have anyone tried this? Does anyone know how? Does anyone have more information? Let the discussion begin... |
Re: Removing languages to save space?
Bear in mind the language and dictionary files are stored in a compressed JFFS2 filesystem, and text-type files compress very well so you're unlikely to free up anything like 30Mb of physical space, more likely 3-5Mb, 10Mb tops.

Thanks for the quick reply and useful information.
Then removing the languages is not that intresting but still it would be fun to see how much space you would save. |
