Merry Christmas N800 fans!
Happy Hannukah, Quanzai and whatever other holidays are celebrated this time of year.
I was able to give my 3 brothers some old test unit N800s and they went over well. Youngest brother is a database admin so I configured his with the usual power tools but the others, while technophiles, didn't need that level so I installed a few games and media tools and left it at that for now. I installed the official N800 image of OS2008 with zero hiccups. For those tracking this sort of thing, the OS on these 3 tablets was an old version, pre SDHC card fix (I forget the build offhand). Also there was no backup involved, Anyway, end result was zero bugs or crashes so far. Not a one on any of the devices, and we put them through the mill tonight. The funny thing was that the second oldest after me didn't show as much interest as the other two-- but his girlfriend sure did! She was all over the thing, wanting to know more about the tablet than I had time to cover! Looks like a training session at their place will be called for... and that I targeted the wrong person with those two. Anyway, hope everyone else had as much fun as I did tonight, tablet-wise or otherwise, and enjoy tomorrow as well! I have some stockings to stuff... |
Re: Merry Christmas N800 fans!
tks, and happy new years to you from the gulf of mexico!
just opened Santa's gift of an n800... added 1gb internal, 4gb external cards, charged up, gained root (becomeroot), set up ssh/ (openssh), and have customized the desktop, statusbar (osso-statusbar-cpu) and multimedia (added fmradio)... also installed fbreader, docreader and antiword - now i can read any document format! not bad for the first hour of playing with this new toy... definitely one of the best handheld/pda-sized linux doodads i've had (agenda, zaurus, etc.)... it's a keeper! |
Re: Merry Christmas N800 fans!
Merry christmas to all, though it's already a regular working day here in Korea.
I got my n800 a few days before Christmas, and really, really like it. We had some friends over for Christmas Eve, and it was nice to control the Christmas music (headless mpd connected to stereos) through my new toy. Also did some skype with my family back in Finland, though I had to switch to the desktop to use a webcam. Hopefully I'll get gizmo working in both continents soon. I'm a bit of a linux geek, but I have to say I wasn't expecting such functionality and cleverness in a linux machine out of the box. |

Wow, how cool is that?! I experienced similar a while back. The reason I now have two tablets is that my normally disinterested wife, 'stole' my new N800 after but a week of my use. She tuned in and now sets Mahjong records well under 3 minutes and already has all her baby music loaded and her horsey pictures to show friends at will. Hey, who would've thought the Miata or the Ford Mustangs would become known for their 'lady' appeal? ;) Maybe the N800/810's are just sexy enough and practical to become the next chick gadget? Advertising theme: FITS IN YOUR PURSE NICELY suggestion: save all your latest Young and the Restless Soap episodes on to your tablet for block enjoyment later! (oops-sexist alert!--sorry that was meant to sound sincere--my wife loves that show!) Best Wishes to everyone in this lovely 'new' community! See you in 2008. |
