Maemo Mapper and N810 internal GPS?
Is it possible to get Maemo Mapper working with the internal GPS on the N810, or has that funtionality not been added yet? It installed fine on the N810, but I don't see an option to use the internal GPS.

Yes, in the settings dialog select 'Bluetooth' for the GPS but leave the edit field empty. Then all you have to do is wait until it gets a gps fix...

I've been firing off Map, getting the GPS started, then firing of MM. I thought there was a problem with MM starting the GPS.

It starts the GPS on its own fine if you have it set up like Duncan describes.

it works! Why is there an option to use internal GPS if this works better?? The internal GPS option has never worked for me

Once the os2008 gps interface has been proven, it'll likely be faster (and able to run event driven, which'll save battery). Adding it is good, even if it's broken on Nokia's end right now. trust gnuite ;-) Cheers, kernelpanic |
Re: Maemo Mapper and N810 internal GPS?
Personally, I have no idea why libgpsbt ("bt" standing for "Bluetooth") works with the internal GPS receiver. I think it might be a throwback from libgpsmgr, which worked on both serial port devices (which the internal GPS receiver acts like?) and bluetooth port devices (i.e. RFCOMM). Perhaps libgpsbt, which uses libgpsmgr, includes serial port support for that reason.
The default setting in Maemo Mapper is "Bluetooth" with an empty MAC address, though, so if you don't modify the settings, Maemo Mapper should "just work" on the N810. The documentation also recommends that configuration for the N810. I agree that the label is confusing, though. |
