Adaptor turned SD slot into miniSD slot... permanently?

Oh dear. I put a miniSD card in an SD adaptor, put it in the external slot of my N800, and now cannot get it out.

The miniSD card comes out with no problems at all, but the adaptor is completely utterly stuck in there and there's no way to get a grip on it.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Needle nose pliers perhaps?

Yes (sort of)!

I was just coming back here to say I finally managed to get the card out with a pair of fine pincers. I had to use the smallest kind though, those adaptors don't have much clearance inside the card slot.

If anyone else has this problem, rummage through your bathroom cabinet, you may well find the answer there.

I had the same problem.
I used the tip of a knife, ought to be careful though.

Ah, I'm not the only one then!

So here's the (very subtle) problem: the best (most would say the only) way to pull an SD card out of the external slot is to hook something (fingernail) in the little groove on the top side of the card and pull it out. This works well enough for full-size cards, but mini- and micro-SD adapters most often appear to be missing the fingernail groove, making them effectively stuck (oops!). Indeed, the only solution I've found so far is find some small tweezers or pliers that can grip the tiny protruding part of the adapter and pull it out as gently as possible.

i also had this problem. my solution to get both the mini-sd & the adapter out was to put the mini-sd card back in and apply some pressure up- or downwards while pulling it out. it seems to be pretty easy to remove the adaptor with the card this way.

I tried that at first, but the miniSD just kept coming out without the adaptor.

The pincers do work though, so I suppose if anyone's going to use a smaller card with their N800's external slot, remember to buy a set of pincers!

Alternatively, people could just stick to using the internal slot which doesn't have this problem at all (unless you have to use small cards in both slots, in which case... buy the pincers).

My Nikon D50's SD card holder is spring loaded so that you just push it in and it pops out. <=That's what we need.

I try to use standard SD cards there, but sometimes I need to use my 2GB micro-SD card with adapter to transfer files from my laptop to the N800. It's a PITA, and having some tweezers handy is a good idea. I can get it out with a knife blade or whatever, but the design is poor at best. Oh well, if that's the worst thing I can find about the device, I suppose it's not fatal.
