Bluetooth to OSX 10.4.11 Unsuccessful
 

I can't link my N800 (OS2008) with my G4 Mac running 10.4.11 . I get a warning message that says "Device does not have the necessary services."

Actuall, I've not successfully connected to any Mac with my N800. Any suggestions?

Not sure how you are trying to link your n800 to your mac (IP over bluetooth?). But things have changed in OS2008 from the "old way" of using pand. You may want to check out this thread:

Are you attempting to browse your N800 from a Mac using Bluetooth? If so, I can confirm that does not work. However, you can send individual files from a Mac to an N800 (and vice versa) via Bluetooth.

Actually this _should_ work, if you use something that knows how to browse via ssh/scp. Konqueror will do this using fish:// as will winscp (for windows). I figure if the Linux and windows guys can do it, the mac should be able to do it better! ;-)

That said, you may have to use Konqueror on the Mac (in an X window).

And if you have SSH installed.

However, I think you're missing the OP's point. Macs support the FTP Bluetooth profile to access file systems on Bluetooth devices that also support the FTP profile. There's a nice, friendly "Browse device" button to click and no need for SSH or SCP (though the Mac has those).

According to Nokia's literature on OS2008, it supports the FTP Bluetooth profile, but attempting to use it from a Mac leads to exactly the error message Ogar reported: "Device does not have the necessary services."

Other users have reported similar failures when attempting to connect to N8x0s via the FTP profile from other, non-Mac devices.

You are right, I missed that point. Sounds like one just needs to install a FTP server (which is insecure) on the Nokia, and then you will be ready to go. There should be ftp server solutions out there.

No, you're still looking at this as running TCP/IP applications over a network connection that happens to be over Bluetooth. The Bluetooth FTP profile is something that, when present, is built into the Bluetooth stack itself. If two devices both support the FTP profile in their respective Bluetooth stacks, then they will need nothing more to browse one another's file systems and transfer files.

That is what's failing to work here.
