It's time for new OS2008 firmware update

I think it's time to see a firmware update for the OS2008 considering that some serious bugs needs to be fixed asap:

-The finger keyboard bug
-the context menu issue
-the desktop' widgets issue (p.e. try to scroll the GPE summary without dragging the widget and you win a brand new N810) so a desktop lock function is mandatory.
You can add any other I missing :)
In my opinion, we cannot wait three months to have those serious bugs fixed; from my ignorance, I think that those issues would'nt be so hard to get fixed.

As to provide more flexibility, maybe for future releases, would be desirable to see:
-The ability to install the OS straight on SD cards when flashing
or the capability to install apps on sd cards due the limited internal memory size. (specially for newbies, non tech users)
- More flexibility to organize your files, specially for the sd cards (I would like to be able to put shortcuts for folders on desktop or any way to gain faster access to files on cards)
Maybe I'm saying something idiot, my apologies beforehand; in that case please enlighten me!

i totally agree with you, there are many bugs that have to be fixed right now.
in my opinion n800 with the beta os2008 was working smoother and nicer.
with the full release of os2008 n800 is having difficulties to open some applications with no reason.i cant remember the command that you check the cpu cycles.
Last but not least the MUST fix the broken REPOSITORIES

lol its definitely true about the GPE summary applet, so annoying! Mine wasn't even displaying any of my GPE applications data, and I can't make any categories in the GPE apps (as soon as I click new category they close themselves) any idea whats wrong?

It seems odd that you think an upgrade of the OS will resolve what is probably a GPE bug.

Given the length of QA, sign-off and planning that goes into a commercial software release you'd only see a rushed out firmware if there was a major bug. Nokia don't "release often, release early" - they, like many other software houses, release "when it's ready" (dependent on marketing).

OS2008 will get better and evolve, just as OS2005, OS2006 and OS2007 did.

Known issue: this thread may shed some more light on this problem...

more on topic: I also agree for an option to lock the applets...GPE summary is almost useless if you have a lot of appointments since scrolling is near impossible :(

As for my comment, my intention was to remark the need to be able to lock applets on desktop. The non locked applets affects not only GPE summary, sometimes others applets too!

And... I'll say it again (since apparently they already know how to fix it, but won't tell us how now): SOFTPOWEROFF!

I've compiled my own little list of issues with OS2008, from other postings. The most serious one is probably those reports about possible re-occurances of the SD corruption bug (because of the more aggressive power saving feature, which presumably includes more frequent voltage drops). I have yet to see this one truly rejected or confirmed. Until clarified I won't upgrade..

(And uh, does the N800 FM receiver work or not in OS2008?)

The FM Radio works, but it seems that it is interfering with BT headsets , after installing FM Radio, I wasn't able to get my headset to work again. It pairs, but it looses connection after 5 seconds and the sound is coming out of the speakers. Hm.

Greetings,

Rafael

The FM radio works great for me, but I'm not using a bt headset.

As for SD corruption, if you are waiting for Nseries users to come clamoring forward, saying that they don't have SD corruption (I don't), people just don't usualy bombard troubleshooting centers with reports of non-problems.

The fact is that SD cards sometimes go bad. If you are waiting for a time when SD cards never go bad, you will be waiting quite awhile.
