Nokia OS2007HE
I am considering upgrading to the OS2007HE I just have a few quick questions. Which version has the fewest bugs. And second question Is it really worth it?

Re: Nokia OS2007HE
I myself have found OS2006 to be more stable and keep using it. However, if you search and read the existing threads about OS2007HE, you may notice that many people are actively using this release.
I think you should try installing the latest version and use it for a while. Then you can decide if the Hacker Edition works for you. If you don't like it, you can always flash the device back to OS2006. |
Re: Nokia OS2007HE
Forget HE. Its instable, buggy and become slow with use - You have to reset most of times to use the device, and the MICROB version is awful.
Stay in OS2006 while nokia donīt release another official version to 770 ( a really example of abandonware ) |
Re: Nokia OS2007HE
It needs some tweaking and then it may be better than OS2006. To speed it up you may try to
- switch back to opera browser engine (in browser menu) - disable metalayer crawler which brings your device to crawl for few minutes after your device boots, or when you insert mmc card, or forever if it doesn't like media files on your mmc card Code:
$ sudo gainroot |
Re: Nokia OS2007HE
i am posting from 770 with 2007he
overall, i like it, it does take some more tinkering to get up and running smoothly, but honestly i have never experienced the instibility that others have complained about. |
Re: Nokia OS2007HE
I'm also very pleased with OS2007HE, needs some tweaking and then it's great (no rtsp streaming though, no idea why). You can also run Skype on 2007HE and bluetooth support is better.

Re: Nokia OS2007HE
I am also very happy with OS2007HE. It really didn't take very long to get up and running and I have had only one reboot since running it. It is worth trying if you enter lots of text as the handwriting and thumb board seem more responsive.
It is also mre finger friendly. Speed wise it is also generally better, although I am also now using Fanoush's 48mhz kernel. I find Opera to be just as stable as on 2006 and still a bit better than microb in terms of speed. Well worth trying as it just feels a lot more polished than 2006 as well as better availablity of apps for bora. The only app I haven'tt been able to get working so far is acmonitor. I am running gnumeric, mauku, maemo mapper 1.4.7, simple-launcher, quiver, synergy, dropbear Have fun -John |
Re: Nokia OS2007HE
How do you change the browser engine?
There is an option to change engine (microb or opera) but if i click on opera nothing seems to change and it doesn't seem to stick. Micron is always shown as selected. Am I missing something? Latest OS2007HE, newly flashed. |

After you change the engine you need to restart the browser for the change to take effect. Now eventhough you've changed the engine to Opera it will show it as being MicroB in the selection menu. The engine does actually change, it's just a weird quirk of OS2007HE. To be absoultely sure that it's been changed to Opera, open a new browser window and type opera:about in the address bar. If the change was successful it will take you to the Opera about page. :) |
