Help picking a device

I have been looking for a Pocket sized device that I can basicly use for email and SSH That has a proper qwerty keyboard(one i can thumbtype on while walking around or sitting on the bus)
I used to have an I-mate jasjar but recently I stood on it and broke it.

I have between $600-$1000 to spend.
I have a usb hsdpa modem that I could link to compatible devices.

I do not mind carrying/buying around more then 1 device if it fits my needs as long as it is still pocket size in total.

I would either say the N810 because of the built in keyboard, or an N800 with an iGo BT keyboard should work well. The N810 may suit you better, but if you need more space, I would get the N800 because of the two full-size SD slots supporting up to two 16gb sd gards (32gb supported total). And soon, it will probably support up to 64gb.

Yes i have been looking at the N810. unfortunately i have found no easy way to power the hsdpa modem while im walking around since the n810 does not provide enough power out the USB port being a hand-held device. Do you have any suggestions for powering the modem?

I believe there is a thread here that tells how to enable that...

i have read a thread about enabling USB host on the n810 however its more of an issue providing the power to the modem.
From what I understand the N810 like almost all portable devices while they support USB host do not provide power for the client the client has to be self powered or you need to provide inline power. I have not yet seen a post and I was looking for details on powering USB devices.

Well... if I'm not completely mistaken on your setup, can't you buy HSDPA cell phone, place the SIM into the phone, and pair the phone with N810 using Bluetooth? (This is assuming your HSDPA modem has SIM card.)

Then you can use the phone as your HSDPA modem wirelessly.

If your budget is up to $1000 you should have plenty for BOTH N810 and 3G (unlocked) phone.

Unfortunately Bluetooth Version 1.2 only has a maximum bandwidth of 1Mbit/s while hsdpa specs are 3.6 and up to 14.4 mbit/s. Yes the N810 does do Version 2.0 + EDR which does support up to 3mbit/s there are very few cell phones that support it aswell.

Correction There are alot of phones that support version 2 however it seems that they bring the total cost out of my price range. Most of the cheaper cell phones around also only support the lower speed hsdpa.

The n810 however no matter how i look at it seems to be my best option. I wish the eee was smaller.

Cyberpower makes a battery-powered usb hub. It takes rechargable AAA batteries, and will recharge them automatically via a usb connection also.

A self powered USB hub that sounds like an interesting option. I will have to look for one. but i don't know how long i could power a the modem with that i would probably have to carry around alot of spare battery's.
